"The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommended Thursday that millions of eligible Americans, including those as young as 12, get an updated omicron-targeting booster shot to bolster defenses against serious illness and death during a potential fall or winter rise in covid-19 cases.

CDC Director Rochelle Walensky endorsed a recommendation by an advisory panel, paving the way for some clinicians, pharmacies and other providers to begin administering the shots as early as this weekend. The Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices voted 13-1 to recommend updated shots from Moderna, for those 18 and older, and from Pfizer-BioNTech, for people 12 and older.

...

The new boosters — the first changes since the mRNA vaccines were rolled out in December 2020 — target the BA.4 and BA.5 omicron subvariants dominant in the United States."

EU regulator approves first Covid booster shots targeting Omicron variant

"The European Union's drug regulator on Thursday backed two separate Covid-19 vaccine boosters updated to target the Omicron variant and developed by Moderna and the team of Pfizer and BioNTech.

Europe is preparing to roll out shots ahead of an anticipated rise in infections this winter. The new so-called bivalent shots combat the BA.1 version of Omicron and the original virus first detected in China.

The recommendation is to authorise the vaccines for people aged 12 years and above who have received at least primary vaccination against Covid-19, the European Medicines Agency (EMA) said.

The final go-ahead will be subject to European Commission approval, which is expected to come in shortly."

CDC recommends updated Covid-19 boosters

...

"The new shots can only be used as a booster for people who have had a primary series of vaccines. It is not authorized for use as a primary series.

With the authorization of these boosters, the FDA suspended the authorizations for the previous boosters produced by Pfizer and Moderna. Those monovalent (one strain) boosters can no longer be given in this country, except in children who are too young to receive one of the bivalent boosters.

...

Daniel McQuillen, president of the Infectious Diseases Society of America, said his group applauds ACIP’s recommendations.

“Covid-19 is not over. Nearly 400 people die from Covid every day, and almost 5,000 people are currently hospitalized with Covid,” he said in a statement."

Hopefully Thailand isn't dragging it's feet on getting the new vaccines.

More importantly keep the GPO from forbidding private hospitals and clinics from purchasing there own vaccines to sell.

Udon Thani Hospital has already taken deposits for the second generation Moderna vaccines.

Last time the "Thai Red Cross" ended up taking 30%  of the privately purchased vaccines for there own dispersal.

Hopefully they've learned.

Another variant that is worse than Omicron could pose another problem to the already anemic economy.
