RAYONG, Sept 8 (TNA) – The Department of Industrial Works found an illegal landfill covering more than 80,000 tons of industrial waste in this eastern province.

In response to people’s complaints about considerable white dust from big trucks, Pruek Siroratanasret, the department’s director for industrial waste management, went to a factory of chemical fertilizers, gypsum, ammonia, ammonia hydroxide and sulfuric acid in the Map Ta Phut Industrial Estate in Muang district.

At the plant he found many piles of industrial waste and white chunks amounting to about 500,000 tons altogether. Backhoes were loading the waste on trucks.

The big question here is

Where were the Trucks taking it exactly ?

To a more obscure place out in the Wild probably.

Expats in places likeBang Chang should be very concerned about this - the locals have been for decades.......this is not new - about 8 years ago it was pointed out the up to 50% of industrial waste in the area was dumped illegally in waste sites not prepared for industrial waste.

I notice next to this dump there is some water.

The problem with a lot of this waste is that it seeps into the water supply and farming soil and thence into te local food supply. It can also seep into the sea and pollute the air. Note the fine dust on your car when left outside.

BTW When were the trucks taking the waste?

Chonburi and Rayong have some of the largest industrial areas in Thailand. They have been allowed to develop without proper regulation or monitoring.

Successive authorities attitude seems to have been  - out of sight, out of mind.
