Newborn Baby Health Insurance?

Featured Replies

Insurance Company Suggestions & Estimated yearly cost for Thai health insurance for a perfectly healthy newborn thai/farang baby (10-weeks) living in Chiang Mai

Never insured our child but in 6 years he has only had a couple of colds. Vaccinations, we think have played a part. He has had EU vaccinnes in addition to mandatory thai vaccines. All in all about 15 injections over 4 years.

Every time we have been offered insurance the sales pereon think we are interested in the payout. Bit off putting but we never reqlly pushed this subject. Touch wood.

I used Pacific Life Insurance when I lived in Udon Thani.

I had my son added to my policy for 20K baht per year, healthy child never had a claim, but

I did not take out insurance and frankly I do not see the point yet.

One would hope you never have to...  Or at least hope that the local government hospital provides adequate cover for your child.

IMO - there is a great deal of importance in ensuring our children have the best medical care - a lot can go wrong in their younger years - early identification of issues is paramount.

Good medical insurance ensures private care and access to better equipment, doctors who have more time for you etc (I know this is debatable).

Wife and son have been with BUPA, LUMA, April, VUMI...   Inpatient only...

Costs have been about 80,000 baht per year for them both.

Different companies load higher premiums for younger children, thus, particularly for younger children its well worth shopping around.

Also, it well worth considering ‘international’ vs ‘local’ cover, as local cover can heavily load the renewal premium if ‘something has been treated’ or they can out right reject renewal, where has international companies have stronger regulation for continued cover but also have higher premiums.

I've had great service from Nakorn Ping hospital in CM for my kid.

Once he was referred to Suan Dok hospital for a few nights specialist treatment.

Totally free.
