Oysters

Featured Replies

In Pattaya most of the fresh markets sell oyster. Packed into tubs the sell for 100 Baht (or they used too). I use them in cooking but is it safe to eat them raw?

OK thanks for that but I was looking for something a bit simpler.

I've eaten raw thai oysters plenty of times in restaurants where I saw lots of thais eating them. Never had an issue.

YMMV

There is always a risk in eating raw shellfish, but with respect to Thai oysters, the presence of vibrio is of concern because of the high water temperatures and low salinity in the areas where they are harvested compared with oysters from cold water sources.

I like raw oysters very much, but will pass on locally harvested ones. I know others have no issues, but my risk tolerance is low when it comes to possible food-borne illnesses.

I loved to eat oysters, but I once ate them at a restaurant (on the sea front) and I was really sick for 4 days, didn't touch them again

Just gulp down a loogie and you'll get the same taste experience with zero risk of getting sick.

What's a loogie ? Not everyone understands slang from different cultures, I presume it's an americanism.

Then everyone should look up the words they don't understand, if they care to know.
