Daily News Thai Caption: No assistance

 

Daily News went to Kanchanaburi where there have been mass deaths of fish being raised by farmers on the Kwae Noi river due to rains and flooding. 

 

Some 150 fish farmers are affected in the worst case in 10 years.

 

About 500 tons of fish have died and many more have escaped their enclosures. 

 

Losses are in the region of 50 million baht to businesses in Koh Samrong and Klai Khiang sub-district.

 

And so far no authorities have arrived to offer help.

Floods can.

Something nasty got washed into the river, that's for sure. Businesses got affected too, not "just" wild-life fish, so might there be an investigation?

There is a huge amount of silt being carried by the river since the flooding started and when sediment loads are too high fish deaths are often a result especially when they have limited space in a farm.

What's that, about $1.3 million dollars ? I really can't see a Thai fish farm being worth that, even with life stock. But be an 'insurance claim' guesstimate

That's much of the problem. Too many fish for the enclosed volume of water.

Depends on pollution content within the rain or run-off?
