Operators Promises Safe Halloween Festival on Khao San Road

BANGKOK, Oct 31 (TNA) – Business operators on Khao San Road promised that their Halloween festival would be safe and there would not be any situation like the one on a street in Itaewon because Khao San Road is wider.

Sa-nga Ruangwatanakul, president of the Khao San Road Business Association, said that business operators on Khao San Road prepared safety measures and there would never be any situation like the one in Itaewon.

 

He said that Khao San Road was as wide as 12 meters and was flat, not slope. Moreover, there were as many as seven exits. In any event of emergency, visitors could leave the road without delay.

Prayut’s sadness at Seoul Halloween horror as similar party is to go ahead in Bangkok on Monday

Prime Minister Prayut Chan ocha on Sunday expressed his sadness at the tragedy unfolding in South Korea following horrific scenes on Saturday night in the capital Seoul which saw at least 153 dead including one Thai national. He has ordered officials and agencies to assist concerned Thai families who have loved ones in the country.

Organisers of the Khao San Road Halloween Party are still going ahead on Monday night with the annual spectacular which in the past year has been a huge draw for foreign tourists and revellers, many wearing outlandishly scary costumes which added to the real horror in Seoul on Saturday night.

Prime Minister Prayut Chan ocha has ordered Thai agencies and officials to assist Thai families with loved ones in Seoul, South Korea after it has been confirmed that at least one Thai national is among 19 foreigners killed in the stampede on Saturday night. The news comes as an organiser of a similar Halloween party in Bangkok’s Khao San Road has confirmed that the event is to go ahead after a safety review on Monday with local district officials in the Bangkok neighbourhood of Phra Nakhon.

Thai Prime Minister Prayut Chan ocha has expressed his sadness at the tragedy that unfolded in Seoul, South Korea on Saturday night when a Halloween Party went awry after it is reported that nearly 100,000 people ended up crushed together into an area near Itaewon Street in the capital which was once a red light area in the heyday of US servicemen being stationed in the city in the 1960s.

Police Beef Up Security To Prevent Repeat Of S. Korea Tragedy

AFTER at least 153 people were killed and dozens more injured in Seoul when a crowd surged into an alleyway during Halloween festivities on Saturday night, Thai National Police Chief Pol. Gen. Damrongsak Kittiprapas this morning (Oct. 31) ordered police teams to strictly supervise Halloween events taking place tonight for the safety of partygoers, Naewna newspaper said.

 

Many events are being held especially in Bangkok, Pattaya, Chiang Mai and Phuket and a large number of merrymakers are expected to join in.

 

Pol. Gen. Damrongsak instructed police teams to coordinate with organisers of these events to check the venues, particularly entrances and exits and fire exits.

How pathetic that the government would come out and say such a stupid thing. There is no comparison between the 2 places. Prayut just poking his nose in trying to seem that he cares. Bet there wont even be a large crowd at Khao San Rd

There may not be as many and it may seem completely different to us. But to many Thais, I am sure they are looking for assurance.

 

Remember a lot of what politicians do is for the show to make people feel better.

 

The fact that he is doing this and is taking action is what people want to see and hear.

On the flip side if he did nothing and something small happened no matter what people would be asking why he did nothing.

Just make sure you check the fire exit routes of any clubs you go into and take care crossing any road in Thailand, then you may have some chance of survival.

How do you know about the crowd in Khao San Road?

More lip service.

Last time I was in Nana Plaza the 2 old fire exits supposed to lead out to beside the Landmark Hotel alley at the back padlocked or built over in one case.  

In fact they are so well disguised that unless you remember the "old days you would not know they are there, not that they are any use.

Supposedly "security"is the reason

Full house, old buildings with a lot of old dry timber, fire at the front & hundreds would be toast.

Years I have been talking about this but I presume "money talks"

In addition to my comments above I do not believe fire exit inspection are police work.

They are (or should be ) the responsibility of councils or shires in their respective areas

Excellent post, and I agree with what you are saying, but the unelected PM is not a politician. We all know how he got into running the country.

Proactive police work, here? Is something changing? Am I detecting some improvement in services? Whoa. 

 

Let us hope this is not just lip service. More real police work is very much needed. Not American style oppression. Just being there for the people.

That is more of a court case and police.  

 

If you remember the government attempted to regulate the bars to have the correct exits the problem is that so many of them are so old that there is no way they can build it in.  Imagine trying to get fire exits at NANA plaza inside the entertainment area or the bars n cowboy.

Not sure about that!  The grand standing is hypocrisy! 

Maybe a dozen dying isn't enough for the PM to care. 

There are so many illegal operations going on why not stand up and do something in and for his own people.  Korea? He is helping the lives of in Korea who died why not stand up for them and fix the corruption here. With all the billions being collected why not help those who got burn to death or burn pay for the medical treatment which is a drop in the bucket!

What is the world’s fascination for American tradition?  Halloween, Valentine’s day, Thanksgiving?  Money I guess.  Thais are different to all other cultures.  Money rules.
