Was there a political motivation for the attack? It makes sense.

Is the depape mentally ill? I'm not a doctor, but from what I read it seems plausible.

You read that from an ex girlfriend spending 10 years in prison for abduction who had a call from a New Yorker journo, anywhere else?

Yes thats already been clarified

So now after claiming all you wanted to know is who opened the door your now expanding that...........lol

Yes thats already been clarified

Ok it will be in interesting to see how it all unfolds. PP is quite the guy who after opening door returned to attacker. Unless of course the two were standing next to door and PP used his free hand to open door and depape instantly hit PP before police could intervene.

It also makes perfect sense that Paul Pelosi was able to open the door and was immediately attacked by the intruder before the police could enter and assess the situation.

It will be interesting.....

Maybe the perception is derieved from the fact that David DePape was a Maga conspiracy nut and you have been hyper active in deflecting for him and tacitly backed his conspiracy theories.

Or maybe I have done nothing of the sort and you are creating a straw man while attempting to slur me with the MAGA label, simply because you cannot present a coherent argument to disprove any of my perfectly logical and legitimate points.

Trump's got a lot of loon followers, when he spreads conspiracy theories they listen and act. You may have noticed.

To be fair!
Apparently the left also has some baggage to! There wasn't much fuss

when a guy went to assassinate a Sc justice after the roe v wade leak and then this below

“That’s right,” Pelosi told MSNBC’s Andrea Mitchell when asked to address her comments about Trump on January 6. “I would have punched him out. I said I would have punched him out. I would have gone to jail. And I would have been happy to do so.”

Nothing mentions who opened the door.

Actually, as Candide has posted above, the FBI affidavit in support of the federal charges on page 7 quotes DePape as saying it was Pelosi who opened the door, similar to what other news accounts and officials have reported.

Again, this is DePape's account as reported by the FBI:

"The police arrived and knocked on the door, and Pelosi ran over and opened it. Pelosi grabbed onto DEPAPE’s hammer, which was in DEPAPE’s hand. ...

f. DEPAPE stated that he pulled the hammer away from Pelosi and swung the hammer towards Pelosi."

The narrative description by the DOJ in announcing the federal charges has a more general description:

"According to the complaint, minutes after the 911 call, two police officers responded to the Pelosi residence where they encountered Paul Pelosi and DePape struggling over a hammer. Officers told the men to drop the hammer, and DePape allegedly gained control of the hammer and swung it, striking Pelosi in the head."

Accused Pelosi attacker’s history shows blurry lines of radicalization

David DePape’s online extremism mutated across fringe movements. Analysts say this “side switching” is increasingly common

The path that led an attacker to the home of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) was long and meandering, with evidence suggesting that he dabbled in fringe movements of all sorts before embracing the right-wing vilification of Democrats.

The complex history of accused attacker David DePape’s radicalization unfolded over more than eight years and several different ideologies, moving from Green Party support and nudist activism, to a hateful mix of racist, anti-Jewish and misogynistic rhetoric, according to terrorism analysts who’ve studied his writings and social media posts.

They say DePape’s evolving beliefs show how today’s extremist threat complicates easy left-right categorization, a shift that’s confusing to the public and a bonanza for trolls who exploit the messiness to push disinformation and justify violence.

This actually sounds reasonable to me. The guy was strung out and mentally unstable, to put it charitably. Quite a good fit in the world of Berkley activism.    It will take some time to unravel it all, that's for sure.  Anyone who claims that they KNOW what motivated him already is not worth taking seriously.

The suspect had been living in the Bay Area community of Richmond -- not Berkeley -- in recent years, as detailed in the FBI affidavit supporting the federal criminal charges against him.

And, his motivation has been pretty clearly established as well, again from the same charging documents and his own statements to authorities. To wit:

"In the course of the interview, DEPAPE articulated he viewed Nancy as the “leader of the pack” of lies told by the Democratic Party. DEPAPE also later explained that by breaking Nancy’s kneecaps, she would then have to be wheeled into Congress, which would show other Members of Congress there were consequences to actions. DEPAPE also explained generally that he
wanted to use Nancy to lure another individual to DEPAPE."

He also talked to faeries and was trying to find housing for them... talked to angels too.

The police report is just the surface of the situation. This guy has been unhinged for more than a decade.

Capitol Police had a camera feed of Pelosi's home during attack, but no one was monitoring it

WASHINGTON — U.S. Capitol Police had a camera feed showing the outside of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's, D-Calif., home in San Francisco during the attack on her husband Friday, but no one was monitoring it at the time, two sources familiar with the situation said.

The camera is one of about 1,800 at the Capitol complex and around the country that the Capitol Police have the ability to monitor. The Washington Post first reported no one was actively watching the camera feed when the break-in occurred early Friday morning.

Pelosi's home is monitored full time when she is there, however. “She is the mission,” one of the sources told NBC News.

For the good of all concerned, hopefully the authorities involved/Capitol Police had better re-think their narrow assumptions...

"Capitol Police said the agency has launched a review of security in the wake of the Pelosi incident.

“We believe today’s political climate calls for more resources to provide additional layers of physical security for Members of Congress," Capitol Police Chief Tom Manger said in a statement. "This plan would include an emphasis on adding redundancies to the measures that are already in place for congressional leadership."

Actually, it's not an uncommon pattern, also in other countries, that former supporters of extreme left-wing or alternative movements later switch to extreme right-wing.
