In the early 2020 days of the pandemic, when most of the world was desperately implementing lockdowns and trying to limit the damage, one country stood out. Unlike its peers, Sweden didn’t want to lock down, and it didn’t really want masks and social distancing. Instead, the country championed a different approach that many saw (or wanted to see) as an alternative.

The “Swedish model” became hotly debated, with many anti-lockdown advocates citing it as an example.

would a reputable publication put "infamous" in the title of article?

At some stage sweden was on position 8 for mortality pe 100k.

But the countries above sweden had lockdowns and restrictions. That included the usa and uk, which introduced measures late, because of ideological ground.

So maybe they were lucky to have strong viking genes or whatever other factor. Their attitude was calculated on medical experience. And it worked, to some extent. With popular support from population.

I think it's still too early to judge them.

Of course,  the West is furious. The West wants the Chinese working on the assembly lines to manufacture iphones for the West.

The West didn't care that more than 1.5m Americans and Europeans died from Covid, why would the West care if 1.5m Chinese die?

 

BTW zero-covid also serves as a nice excuse for the surveillance state. 

The West needs to make up other excuses (usually terrorists and pedophiles),  which are even more ridiculous.

How do you know that 1 1/2 million lives were saved?

How many died OF covid as compared to those that died WITH covid?

 

If I misunderstand and you are being sarcastic I apologise. I am very sarcastic about the entire lockdown philosophy.

IMO Sweden got it right. I said it at the time and I still believe that.

 

The recent US election was interesting as loads of politicians and their supporters on stages close together and often no mask in sight.

Currently about 97% of the US population over 16 has received at least one dose.  [https://dig.abclocal.go.com/ccg/interactives/us-vaccine-tracker/vax_us_cdc.html  ] If most people are vaccinated and the vaccine has 70% efficacy then 30% of vaccinated people will get the disease and some will die.

 

If 100% of the population have been vaccinated then 100% of people who die of Covid will have been vaccinated. So what. This is self evident.
