In a couple of photos the CT is on it's side - with no oil being picked up by the pump if the engine was still running it would not take long for the main and big-end bearings to run dry. I'm just guessing and maybe barking up the wrong tree as some bikes have an automatic cut-out to stop this happening. Anyway, a moot point as you got it fixed under warranty.

A brilliant story with great photos and the CT is a funky looking bike - I'm impressed that it has a rear disc.

I'm almost 70 and these days my maximum in the saddle at one stretch is about an hour before I need a pit (ice cream) stop and when I first started reading I thought you would be a young whipper-snapper but clearly you look after yourself better than the vast majority.

When i came off the engine was turned on straight away, i can't see that was the issue.

It was a great ride for sure, thanks ????

Unclear why this engine failed,

but,

papa's resolve to use the best oil

Amsoil,

2x better,

not expensive at B300/liter,

in all 5 motos

is reinforced.

.

I will follow Honda's recommended oil until out of warranty ????

The bottom half of the engine is splash lubricated. The oil pump is on the RHS and only provides oil to lubricate the valve gear.

Honda's CT125 recommended oil specs:

● JASO T 903 standard*1: MA
● SAE standard*2: 10W-30
● API classification*3: SG or higher

/////////

Amsoil Metric SAE 10W-30 tics all of Honda's specs

I had some Yamaha oil that I didn't put in a bigger bike so I used that.

Good enough for a splash fed Honda.

Yep! because Waves have a wet clutch. In my case rather a large one.
