It's funny because in general, in the non large city areas, and even there, you can leave things with your scooter and they'll be there when you return. Leaving the keys is not a good idea, as scooter thieves look for exactly that, as they can take a scooter in daylight surrounded by hundreds and no one would think anything about it, as it could be their scooter. Watching someone walk away with a nice helmet and leaving the scooter is different. Someone might say something. In the country, you can leave most anything and it will be there, as I see it done daily, with all kinds of groceries, helmets, construction supplies etc and no one steals them. They'll go onto your land and take Jackfruit, Mangoes , Chilies, and other food items but not your scooter or things on it. In the west, you never leave anything anywhere. Some people go to tourist areas intending to steal, as they know tourists are likely to be high or drunk, and not as aware. Still better to be safe than sorry, not leaving anything where temptation can occur.
