Police have seized assets worth more than 700 million baht and arrested three suspects, including a former TV actress, for allegedly operating an online gambling operation and for streaming pornographic movies.

Pol Lt-Gen Jirabhop Bhuridej, commissioner of the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB), told the media on Friday that the CIB have been investigating the gang for about two years. Once they had amassed sufficient evidence, they sought search warrants for the premises in which the illegal activities were thought to be operated and for the arrests of eight people, believed to be the key members of the gang.

The three suspects arrested were identified as Bhumipat, his wife Thamonphan, a former actress, and Chetchai. The impounded assets include four houses, 12 luxury cars, 42 million baht in cash and many luxury wristwatches and otherbrand name products.

Insane. I wonder why people are so greedy. Who needs 4 houses and 12 luxury cars? Heck, if they would have shut down the operation months ago and lived a quiet life they would have been set for life. Instead, they will spend many years in jail and forfeit all they had. All due to greed. Too bad.

Was it really 42 million in cash or was a large amount siphoned off (highly likely) before they declared the total of 42 million?  You can't trust the BIB when money is found.

Any previous proven incidents that back your assertion or is it just barstool hearsay and speculation that the police routinely steal seized assets?

Not sure if it's just greed. Purchase of these types of assets are a couple of the classic ways to launder ill-gotten gains.  Thai banks and financial institutions fall under AMLO oversight, and have reporting requirements that are enforced now.  The true ownership of property can be obfuscated, can cars can be easily moved around.

I don't sit on a barstool.

Do you have any proof that the BIB don't regularly steal money from raids.  I didn't think so.  Everyone but you it seems knows that the BIB are the most corrupt organization in Thailand.  I have personal experience of the BIB's corruption.  Do you?

No, I do not, but then I do not have to prove a negative, you're the one who asserted that "the RTP do regularly steal money from raids or seized assets". so the onus is on you to evidence that claim!

"Bar owner in one well known BKK entertainment suburb showed a few of us the rate card for staying open a few years back. The cops had actually felt secure enough to print it."  (From topic on bars not staying open until 0400).

If the cops are brazen enough to print cards showing rates for bars staying open after 0200 do you actually believe that the cops wouldn't take cash from raids?  You are living in a fairy land.

Thanks for confirming that you cannot back up your specific claim with anything empirical but you have to resort to years-old hearsay of a completely unassociated subject.

I did not say that they may not be in a position to that, or that I don't believe that they would do that, I just asked you for evidence of your very specific, but speculative, accusation that they regularly purloin seized assets.   You have produced none.
