Injured Bryde's Whale pushed out to deeper waters off Trat

Daily News Thai Caption: Better off in deeper waters

Daily News reported that Thai marine and coastal authorities responded yesterday when a large Bryde's Whale got into difficulties in Ao Krood bay off Muang district of Trat, eastern Thailand.

It had been there since the previous night.

The 12 meter long fully grown whale was emaciated with wounds on its flippers and tail.

The area is used as a breeding ground for locals rearing mussels so it was shallow and considered dangerous for the whale.

In an ultimately successful 18 hour operation they managed to push the whale out to the safety of deeper waters.

But due to its poor condition a watch was being kept on the creature to make sure it did not once again encroach on the shallow waters.

Bryde's Whale is a name given to several species of rorqual, notes ASEAN NOW.
