This initiative aims to empower students with the capability to access learning resources anytime, anywhere, fostering a more inclusive educational environment. Siripong Angkasakulkiat, who serves as an assistant to the education minister and official spokesman for the ministry, recently confirmed the timely progress of this educational programme. The effort is viewed as a pivotal step in reducing educational inequality and enhancing digital learning opportunities across the nation. Currently, the ministry is meticulously preparing the terms of reference (ToR) for the procurement of these tablets. Ensuring that the devices are functional and effective is paramount, and the ToR is anticipated to be finalised within this month. The meticulous planning is set to see the first batch of devices delivered by late May or early June, aligning perfectly with the commencement of the 2025 academic year. Looking ahead, Mr Siripong disclosed that the programme plans to broaden its reach in the 2026 fiscal year. The next phase will extend the scheme to junior high students, specifically targeting schools already adept at managing digital tools. This phased approach will ultimately ensure all remaining high school students are equipped with these tablets, marking a significant milestone in Thailand's educational advancements. The tablets are designed not just as mere gadgets, but as comprehensive educational tools. The content, carefully developed during the 2024 fiscal year, is scheduled for a trial run within this month. The Education Ministry has opted to lease these devices, a strategic decision aimed at managing costs and ensuring that the technology remains current. Through this initiative, the Ministry of Education underscores its commitment to educational equity, adaptation to technological advancements, and the enhancement of learning experiences for Thai students. As schools prepare to integrate these tools into educational curricula, the programme promises to transform the learning landscape for hundreds of thousands of young learners across the country. With the academic year approaching, both educators and students are eagerly anticipating the role these new digital resources will play in shaping a brighter, more accessible future for education in Thailand. Village School in Ratchaburi
The school in our village caters for pupils between the ages of 5 and 15 or thereabouts. After listening to moans about the children not getting a proper education I logged the school year for 2024. And it doesn't look good. Unless this is par for the course. Not counting Saturdays and Sundays , the children were in class a total of 168 and a half days out of 262 school days. January days at school = 20 Start Tue Jan 2nd. Monday the 15th school closed ( Children’s day ) Tuesday, the 16th of January. school closed ( Teachers day ) February days at school = 18 and a half Thursday 1st Feb. Half day. ? Friday 9th Feb school closed ( Chinese New Year ) Monday 26th Feb. school closed ( Makha Bucha day ) March days at school = 5 days Tuesday 5th of March school closed ? Wednesday 6th of March school closed ? Thursday 7th of March school closed ? Friday 8th March school closed ? Thursday 14th March , no classes just games. Friday 15th March , no classes just games. Monday 18th March to the 31st March school closed. No School in April = 0 Days May days at school = 11 Days Start Wed. May 15th Wed. May 22nd. Closed ( Visakha Bucha day ) Thur . May 23rd. Closed ? June days at school = 17 Days Mon 3rd June Closed. ( Royal Birthday ) Wed 12th June - learning how to dance and sing , half day Thur 13th June - paying homage to Teachers , half day Fri 28th June - Closed school to allow adult Inter Village football knock-out to be played on their pitch. Avoid to pay tax
Therein lies a potential conflict for me. As a U.S. citizen, subject to income tax on worldwide income my taxation in the USA is “no tax due” (I am poor by US tax standards). Hmm, but as a Thai year round retiree resident? Thailand says my required income results in taxation because I am not poor (I ignore the DTA here)?
