This is incorrect. The Chinese vaccines have been effective against preventing severe disease. I used the word "less" very deliberately. It is utterly reprehensible that your ilk like to conflate protection against infection with protection against severe illness. They are different issues and the the latter is by far the most important.

The problem for China has been insufficient vaccinations, not so much bad vaccines.

You are obviously either a Chinese bot or so out of touch with reality. Have you had the Chinese vaccine. I have, it is shi%$e. To try an support the fact that it is down to insufficient vaccines is a travesty and not just a lack of intelligence, but a disgrace.

And as for the Chinese government, having lived here for 5 years dealing with them on a daily basis, they are the worse, incompetent, lying, controlling people on the planet.

If you are supporting them then you should be hounded out of the world for being a sheeple and someone with less understanding, although I am sure you think you are quite smart, if a Chinese bot can..

SINGAPORE - Though often considered inferior due to their induction of a lower antibody response compared with their mRNA counterparts, inactivated virus vaccines can play a role in preventing the development of severe Covid-19, a recent study has found.

This research came out from Singapore, a country which mainly use mRNA vaccines such as Pfizer and Moderna.

60% would be approximately 800,000,000 Chinese have contracted Covid in the last 3 years?  Uh, this is not what the Chinese government keeps saying.  Daily Covid cases in China have been reported as in the 1000's (if you believe that then I have some ocean front properties for sale in Florida at a steep discount).

Let's see where we are in March, April or May of 2023.  Songkran is supposed to be in mid April and it looks like it will be a big deal unlike the last two years.  The reason why Australia, New Zealeand and Germany have not put up entry restrictions for Chinese is because they do not expect an influx of visitors.  Probably the most popular destination for most Chinese travelers will be LOS. Does anyone believe a million Chinese travelers will go to  Europe next year? The US has a very large Chinese population and even I doubt a million Chinese will visit there next year.  The only exception would for Chinese who have relatives in the US.

BF7 Omicron has an extremely high R0, from 10 to as high as 18, meaning one infected person can potential spread to 18 people.

Most Chinese have caught Omicron only in the past few weeks.

Due to the very high R0, China's infection peak may happen in just the next 2 weeks and then infection numbers will go down from then onwards.

While the Thai government are treating the Chinese travelers issue lightly, said Chinese travelers entering from China to Australia could soon be hit with renewed Covid restrictions amid surging virus cases in the country.

The drastic move would come after the US announced on Thursday morning it would impose mandatory Covid tests on Chinese tourists just days before China is set to re-open its borders.

Despite reports of chaos, its true extent is unknown after Chinese authorities stopped reporting daily case counts and deaths.

A spokesman for Australia’s Health Minister Mark Butler said decisions were yet to be made on the developing situation...

Not just Chinese tourists, anyone who has been there recently. Details here:

https://www.cdc.gov/media/releases/2022/p1228-COVID-china.html

I like this part: "...CDC is announcing this step to slow the spread of COVID-19 in the United States during the surge in COVID-19 cases in the PRC given the lack of adequate and transparent epidemiological and viral genomic sequence data being reported from the PRC. These data are critical to monitor the case surge effectively and decrease the chance for entry of a novel variant of concern.  CDC will continue to monitor the situation and adjust our approach as necessary...."

There is now more and more information if anyone wishes to check (the UK .gov web site is a great place for accurate information which totally contradicts main stream media and government statements). The so called rabbit hole is now more like the truth to a beacon of light. In the old wild west they called them snake oil salesmen.

Snake oil salesmen are those who push conspiracy theories that scientists debunk. The beacon of light is a stream of bat's pee when all around is dark.

I quoted credible articles which all said it was reasonably effective against serious illness. Unless you can produce credible contradictory evidence you're just spruiking nonsense.

Not a fan of China but this is as it should be for all nations. Please no more covid restrictions, tests etc. They do more harm than good.

The problem is we still don’t know what variant is circulating within China. If it’s mild and they are rather immune due to previous infections and vaccination, it’s one story. If they develop severe symptoms as well, Thai ICUs will be full in no time, and Thai authorities would close Thailand for everyone.

Any variant circulating in China will no doubt circulate everywhere soon no matter what. It is like trying to stop the wind.

Bkk Post today reports that Thailand is indeed considering restrictions and checks on visitors from China.  remains to be see if they carry this out though.

I read somewhere that all Chinese visitors must buy health insurance in Thailand. Has anyone else seen this rule and if so, is that now standard for ALL visitors, regardless of nationality? A follow up question is, doe long stay expats on non-O visa's also require the same thing?

Well the UK has joined the list of countries that impose measures on travelers from China, so this time, Thailand is at odds. Not saying who has got it right but a lack of precautions worries me.

Yes they have a habit of blurting out decisions that have not been thought through.. and then subsequent U-Turns....

As with so many Covid-related decisions, public health has nothing to do with it, it's pure politics and grandstanding.

Well it is people who have no knowledge in the fields making the decisions... and politicians who are renown for making bad decisions. I tend to agree... the only thing that might work is a total ban.....

With a population well vaccinated, and a strain less pathological yet highly contagious, I don't think it is the right way to go too... get focused on protecting the vulnerable may work.

I saw a news broadcast on an Indian News Channel(keep in mind Indians hate the Chinese) and they showed 5 videos of bodies and bodies wrapped in hospital gowns in Shanghai hospitals.  This channel also showed a long line of Chinese people waiting to make funeral arrangements.  The broadcast claimed these videos were recently shot.  The anchor also said  “is it2020 again”.

I have never believed anything related to Covid that comes out of mainland China.  If the US had over 1 million die from Covid then what are the true numbers out of China?

At a minimum a PCR test at least 72 hours before departure should be required.  I hate to say this but arrivals from mainland China should have to check in on an app for the first five days.

But what do I know except I am a 3 time graduate of Thai Quarantine System.  I graduated with high marks.  If I had to pay for the privilege of experiencing the 14, 10 and 7 quarantine stays in order to re-enter Thailand then my Sino Counterparts can at least submit a PCR test and be tracked .  For Chinese being tracked by a governmental agency nothing new.
