Crowboy Busted Up In Bike Accident

Featured Replies

There he decided it was more important that he be somewhere else so took off leaving me on the road.

Why is it that just about every Thai male I see get into an accident runs away like a bloody coward? God help this country if it ever gets invaded.

Nothing wrong with your fingers then :o

I dislocated the two smaller fingers on my left hand. I managed to pull them out and back into position on the side of the road. It hurts but is much better than leaving them until someone else can do it later. The muscles are still stretched and it hurts less than when they are cold and pulling back. I have done this before on myself and on others. The trick is to be gentle but deliberate. DO NOT JERK THEM!!

I think it is two things:

1) avoiding taking responsiblity of their actions

2) fear of the costs when the police come

I have found that Thais who are not directly involved in the incident will willingly get involved and help but yes in most cases the person who hits the other will do everything they can to then try and get away.

The other interesting thing is that the others will simply watch him walk up to his car and drive off. No one wants to prevent him from leaving.

The last thing is that Thai Men are much more prone to do this than Thai Women. I think it is because Thai women are much more naturally caring for others than their male counterpart.

You are right though it is cowardice and unfortunately indelibly stamped on their character. Look at everyone from the senior leaders down - irrespective of the situation they will NEVER admit that they did something wrong. It is always some one elses fault or as per our esteemed Mr Taksin the forces of sorcerers and witches who are using evil spirits to plague him.

Im so mad at this hit and run guy....and am guessing that u couldnt get their license or other details CB? atleast make and colour of the car? did you formally file a report with the police? you should.....

now Im quite curious as to this 400baht fine...did they explain what it was about? in some cases if during the course of your accident you manage to hit one of these posts or concrete KM thingy....they consider it destruction of government property and make you pay for it.....but seeing that u were the one hit...they should be looking for the culprit ...the truck.

not to mention the people who have no compassion...geee.....a man lying on the ground...and they dont even bother to check .... whats the world coming to.....

the only good thing to come out of this is to hear that you are not too badly hurt. speedy recovery...and take care.....with my best wishes.

An Isuzu pickup truck turned left into the same lane as me just in front and I slowed and moved over towards the centre of the road to avoid rear ending him.

It was me in my D Max. I stopped and you were clinically dead so I gave you mouth to mouth and CPR, resulting in the cracked sternum. You awoke and demanded more mouth to mouth so I drove off to seek out a suitable professional in that field. When I returned you had left the scene so I assumed you were OK, drove back to the 'Rai and broke the news on Bedlam.

Just like the old days playing footy then CB? :D Good thing you're not a soccer player!

Did you have to stitch up anything or do minor surgery before getting up off the road? :o

No point in bothering doctors or hospitals unless a limb is actually hanging off. :D

Wow CB, glad you're okay! I was just about to start a 'where's crow boy?' thread. Some good can come of these events as they can make you re-think life. How blessed we are to be alive. Look forward to you being back on-line.

Get well soon and God bless.

good to see you back cb.

Yes good to see you again and hobbling along, hope the bruising goes down soon. I for one have had 2 accidents in Thailand, one where I recieved 20 stitches to the head (which explains my insanity, also the drive never stopped, twatskis). When staying in Thailand longterm I do think it is better to get a car or maybe buy your Misssus/GF one (if in a trusting relationship of course). Thailands roads and drivers are so unforgiving.

Anyways, get a beer CB and put ya feet up on ya perch, you escaped what may have been alot worse, even though you may not feel like it at present!

:o

This is my first time back on line and I no longer have on line access. :o

CB

So, your wireless internet implant was f*ed in the accident, too? Does it just dissolve into the bloodstream? Hope it doesn't cost much to replace.

I try to avoid stereotyping Thais, but this is one area where it is difficult to avoid it.

Once they are inside the security bubble of their own vehicle, not a single thought is spared for anyone outside it (I have been involved in a similar accident, thankfully, for me, my injuries where not as bad as CB's)

The only time that any thought is given to anything external to their car is when something bad happens, and then it is focused on self protection.

One thing I don't know, but would dearly love to find out...... is there any feeling of remorse?

Good to see you back CB, from your description of events it could have been much worse, I'm happy that it wasn't.

Having PM'd CB there is no remorse at all !!!

The Thai didn't care either.

Once the Thai finds out he's OK, he'll be round to collect for the damage Cawbie did to his side mirror.

I've been offline for a couple of days so only heard about this just now.

Good to see you're not too badly banged up CB... it could have been much worse.

I hope you have a speedy recovery.

I'm, not sure this bubble mentality is confined to just the Thais, it seems to be an Asian thing.

Just last night I witnessed a near miss at a cross roads here in KL. Three choices for drivers, straight on, turn left or turn right and two lanes to choose from. So logically if you want to turn left or go straight on you get in the left lane, if you want to turn right or go straight on is the right lane. Easy, yes? No. Guy in the left lane passes through the lights and proceeds to turn right, no indication at all, across the path of someone in the right hand lane who was going straight on. He hit the brakes and stopped with a screech of tyres but matey turning right didn't even look round. Probably thought to himself "there aint half some maniacs in this town, lucky I'm a safe driver, never had an accident".

Anyway good to hear you're okay and on the mend. :o

Ditto good to hear all is well CB. Have also been in the real world over the past week and missed this when it was first posted.

Sometimes you wonder if "Karma" will be enough when it eventually catches up to some of these drivers...

Slow, gentle and deliberate.... :D

Reminds me of a gal I once knew in Vientiane :o

As an update, wanted to let everyone know that CB is doing fine (just spoke with him a few minutes ago). His CBR 150 motorbike will hopefully be repaired by this Saturday. He has no internet for the time being, except for an occasional foray to an internet cafe out in San Kamphaeng, where he lives. He has been occupying his time with organizing his music archives on his computer, and exercising his messed-up left hand with his Stratocaster. Can't keep a rock'n'roller down for long.....

He sends his regards to all, and is most appreciative of all the calls and messages.

McG

McG...tell him Ill even spare some of my precious choccy collection as get-well gift...but he will have to come collect it here in Bangkok :D

Hope you recover quickly VB...oops CB :o:D

Just found this, Hey, Crowboy I hope you're up and around soon, heal fast!!

Yes playing footy - a very common injury.

No point in bothering doctors or hospitals unless a limb is actually hanging off. :D

I got a PM from Jet where she wrote "A LEAST GET A &^%ing XRAY YOU STUPID WANKLETTE!!" so I went to the hospital and had a set of xrays done. As I expected from my own examination, there is nothing broken but I seriously had to almost physically prevent being put into hospital for a couple of days for "observation". I was checking my xray sheets and noticed a small sliver that showed up very white under the skin and asked for a new one from a different direction. I have now been irradiated enough to last me the next 25 years. The second shot was interesting and with a bit of home surgury I dug out a small (5mm in length) piece of shrapnel. It has been there since 1982 and was like brand new. As a side line the doctor doing the exam missed that piece when he viewed the xrays so it confrims my view of Thai doctors.

CB

Did I say that. Cawibie, typo and all in caps? I thought I just told you to get your head examined. At least you found the shrapnel. Did you use a switchblade to cut it out? Put iwhiskey on it after, right? Ooooweee. Our hero! Miggy, please dispense a choccy to this soldier. Or were you a triad member?

Just sad to hear you're OK, bird brain. Take snaps of the scars for us. Hey, that would make a good thread. Show us your scars and tell us the story.

Irradiated now are you? Glow in the dark rookie. Perfect. We can dispense with the Mickey Mouse nightlights.

You can't fool me - I know you care :o

used a benetrine swab to sterilise the skin area and a sterile scalpel blade to lift the end of it and then a fine pair of tweezers. Took all of two minutes to do and sorry there is no scar. I don't scar for some reason nor do I cut my fingers off as a sign of penence :D

Yeah I am fine, still a bit bruised and a couple of aches but nothing to worry about. My bike still hasn't been repaired so I am on the rental for a couple of more days.

CB

Keep death off the roads !!!!

Revoke Birdman's license !1

Power to the people !!

Revoke Birdman's license !

The he won't be able to fly anymore. We need him for air support.

Air support? Is there not already enough hot air blowing about the TV forum to support a small Air Base as is? Just needs someone to collect it all.

CB, glad things all turned out ok. :o
