Marjorie Taylor Greene keeps rising in Republican ranks despite ‘loony lies’

When Marjorie Taylor Greene was elected to America’s House of Representatives in 2020, she became one of the most visible of a wave of extremists to enter the Republican party whose often bizarre utterings stretched the bounds of what had previously been the norm of US politics.

The Georgian congresswoman, who has suggested Jewish space lasers are responsible for wildfires, speculated whether 9/11 was a hoax and supported the QAnon conspiracy theory, was part of a new wave of Trumpian Republicans and was mocked, ridiculed and reviled in equal measure – including by some in her own party.

But in 2023, Greene is now firmly on her way to becoming one of the senior figures in the Republican party.

Obviously there are always some extremists who (try to) join mainstream parties and other organizations. And I guess sometimes it is good to try to listen to the extremists within the party compared to having them as opponent outside the party.

But with people like her I ask myself: Is it worth it? Does she really bring new voters or other good influence to the party? Or is she one of those reasons why many people say: I would never vote for that party with that extremist?

I try to be neutral here. I know there are also strange people in the DEMs and obviously that is a worldwide phenomenon. But it seems the GOP has just too many of these nutters. Why do people still vote for them?

"Despite" or because of?

Either way, pretty frightening.

What exactly does she do besides filing motions and hecklings. She did sponsored some legislation and they were nutty.

Bill to award Kyle Rittenhouse

Bill to give gold medals to police officers who served during various Black Lives Matter

Bill on non compliance that ban any discrimination on whether or not you're received the covid vaccine

The fire Fauci Act

Impeach Biden for his role in Afghanistan

Republicans in the House dislike her for time wasting in silly threatrics. She was mocked after her latest amendment fail spectaculary with her own party Republicans rejecting on masse. Yet she got plum committees assignments. Looks like she wearing Kevin's pants.

She's actually quite well considered in the MAGA sphere, including by some BMs.

Of course, she's an embarrassment, but her B.S. also works well among some categories of voters. I think most GOP politicians are quite happy to have a few people specialised in spreading useful B.S., without being themselves compromised with it.

Thanks

Maybe I am too intelligent to understand this "logic".

But then, I am not American.

She's a radical fundamentalist christian nationalist.

“I am being attacked by the godless left because I said I’m a proud Christian nationalist,” Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene wrote in a recent tweet. Two days later, she was hawking merch—a “Proud Christian Nationalist” T-shirt, for sale on her Instagram. “Share your love for our great nation with this shirt, available EXCLUSIVELY at the Official MTG Shop,” the caption said.

The higher they fly, the further they fall.

A rising Star among a growing group of Republican retards.  How can so many Americans citizen be blind to how utterly stupid some of these GOP politicians are?  As the great comedian Goerge Carlin said, America is fine, it's the People who are stupid.

She knows her audience because she is one of them.  I see her on the news saying all these stupid things, which she says with absolutely no trace of guile or nuance, and am continuously amused -- as if I'm subconsciously waiting for the punch line, which never comes.

She could very well be in the House forever, unless someone puts smart pills in the water supply in her district.

Shades of rising National Socialist German Workers' Party leader Adolf Hitler who said In 1928, "We tolerate no one in our ranks who attacks the ideas of Christianity. Our movement is Christian."

How did that turn out?

It sure says alot about the party, that she has not only not been reduced to pariah status, but rather been embraced and promoted. Anyone listening to her speeches simply has to realize the level of insanity and fanaticism.

Does she do any research at all?or does she just run her imbecile mouth just beggers belief and her constituents just gobble this tripe up unbelievable it’s embarrassing

I think it say alot about the integrity, maturity and security of the Republican party being able to discus stuff Mrs Greene has said and done in the distant past. This is because transparency is good in politics. I would be appalled if discussion of Mrs Greene's past behavior was censored, and those discussing it banned or punished from social media, because it is not convenient to the Republican parties interests - as is the case with certain democrat ex congresswomen for example - i dare not go further to illustrate my point....

If only liars , crooks, fraudsters and cheats were able to be exposed from BOTH parties we would have a much better democracy.

Yes, we'd have to go way way way back to Feb 1, 2023 to find crazy stuff that she has said as she did during a Congressional hearing:

Greene: "Oh, Mr. Dodaro. I have to tell you in Illinois that they received $5.1 billion at an elementary school there that used it for equity and diversity."

The funding Greene is discussing came from the 2021 American Rescue Plan, a stimulus package in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, which included billions to support school reopenings. Illinois received about $5.1 billion, with the majority of that split among the state’s roughly 850 school districts. The state did not receive $5.1 billion for a single school.

Here's another one. This goes all the way to the Dark Ages, otherwise known as October 2022.

"In a recent campaign video, U.S. Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, Republican from Georgia, likened Democrats to destructive feral hogs allowed to range free and destroy the American countryside...

As the camera followed her, she grabbed a rifle and climbed aboard a waiting helicopter, where she tracked down and shot a fleeing hog. In the next scene, quite pleased with herself, Greene posed next to her dead prey and invited supporters to enter a free drawing, with the winner accompanying her on her next hog-killing expedition."

Love it when a 'well known' UK paper comments on politics in America. They should have put more effort in to commenting on Brexit before the vote. BTW, most Americans would vote for Meghan and Harry for Queen King.

From May, 2022

Probably in about four or five generations, no one will be straight anymore. Everyone will be either gay or trans or nonconforming or whatever the list of 50 or 60 different options there are."

I guess if you can't criticize the article on the basis of facts, then you'll go after them on the illegitimate grounds of nationality. You've got nothing.

Don't bother these 'characters' with useless things like facts. They don't do facts. They do unpleasant stuff which in the end does not even bode well for them. But they don't care about that fact either.

So would most Australians. The right wing press is most responsible for the brexit disaster and for telling the public lies to get right wing parties elected toprotect the rich from having to pay taxes. The reason we get the MTG's is because the Republicans don't have a choice if they want power. The must appeal to conspiracy theories and uneducated blue collar workers looking to scapegoat somebody for what the rich did to their jobs. The right wing press fuels these lies and the useful idiots vote for them. The average Republican is stupid for voting to keep the rich in power, it's completely against their own interests.

And the people who vote for them are just like that. Sad.

Anyone who has ever looked into a cesspit will know that the scum floats on top of the stinking corruption beneath.
