Has anyone looked into this product? seem to be an invertor meant to be plugged into existing household with a suicide plug and is meant to supplement the mains, the cells are probably too small to be used on their own or even be in a situation where it could export

 

my gut instinct is that this sounds like a bad idea, with so many ways to trip up your existing protective devices and grounding 

I looked at them, but I decided against them as a) a bit expensive b) I could not find what protection they have (anti-islanding for example).

Assuming it's a decent micro-inverter then payback would be 6 years ish.

 

You should easily be able to do something similar for half the cost.
