Mum calls out bullying, fellow students disagree after M3 pupil jumps from 4th floor at school

INN reported on an incident at a Hat Yai school in Songkhla, southern Thailand, when a boy in the third year of secondary education aged 15 jumped from the 4th floor of a school building.

 

He is seriously hurt in hospital.

 

The media reported teachers as saying that "Kan" in M3 had appeared sullen after period 6 and had met other pupils in the toilets.

 

Following this he had sat disconsolately up on the fourth floor before a friend persuaded him to come down.

But later he went up again and jumped.

 

The mother is convinced her son was being bullied.

 

But teachers said they have spoken to fellow pupils who said that is not the case and certainly no one pushed Kan.

 

School authorities in conjunction with social services are trying to get to the bottom of the incident though much will depend on the recovery of the boy.

As if the bullies would admit to bullying, especially after one of their targets attempts suicide.

 

Teachers don't want to be accused of letting bullying get out of control.

Sounds like bullying to me. Why would the students or the teachers admit to this? And what is the likelihood of someone brave enough to come forward with the truth, at the risk of becoming a pariah? 

 

Denial, and obfuscation are so common here. Truth is not.
