webfact Posted February 20, 2023 Share Posted February 20, 2023 By Goongnang Suksawat Phuket – Legal action is being taken against thirteen illegal taxi drivers in Phuket. The Phuket Land Transport Office (PLTO) reported over the past weekend that relevant officials set up a checkpoint near the Phuket International Airport in the Sakoo sub-district of Thalang. Seven taxi drivers (Green Plates) from other provinces were found servicing in the area against rules and regulations. Six taxi drivers were also found using personal vehicles to transfer tourists as illegal taxis (Black Plates). The offending taxi drivers will be fined and their driving licenses will be considered for 90 days of suspension. DFPhuket Posted February 21, 2023 Share Posted February 21, 2023 Those "servicing in the area against rules and regulations" mean that they hadn't paid the required taxi fee to the Phuket airport taxi mafia authorities. Why is it that Grab/Bolt/InDrive can freely service BKK, DMK, CNX and other airports, but they can't do the same thing in Phuket? Bo, it means they haven't registered for taxi services on Phuket. The blame for the limitation at the airport lies with AOT, where the taxi operators have paid a lot of money to.
