Parking on Pattaya Beach Side is No Longer Allowable, Starting Today, March 1st

From today, March 1st, and onwards people can no longer park their vehicle on the beach side of the road in Pattaya due to incresing traffic issues and congestion.

 

The move indicates that the Covid-19 pandemic and restrictions is essentially over in Pattaya based on the number of vehicles flocking to the beach. Pattaya officials had informed the public about this ban since around February 15th.

 

Since late 2020, parking on the beach side had been permitted to appease complaining beach vendors and due to lack of traffic due to Covid restrictions and border closures. The decision led to a reduction of the once three- or four-lane road to just two lanes with cars parked on both sides.

Now without all those people able to go to the beach, those motorbikes with no mufflers can finally get up to triple digit speeds.

 

After a few horrific accidents, and bad press from maimed tourists, they will bring back parking and congestion again to reduce the carnage.

Why shouldn't the third lane have been added? The access to beach road near terminal 21 is 3 lanes and the section of South Road from Beach Road to Road 2 is also 3 lanes.

Maybe this is just the "flip". I have heard that the speedboats may be returning to the beach from Bali Hai following the recent decision to ban them from the beach area. That would be a "flop" right?

Totally agree, these tourist coaches are not supposed to come into the center of Pattaya as many of the streets are way too narrow and cause major traffic hold ups, but of course nothing is said or done to stop this happening. I will agree on one point in that there is a critical lack of parking facilities within the center of Pattaya as the planning office only appears to pay attention to building additional condominiums etc. which of course makes the situation worse.

Is there some plan for a jetty somewhere on the Beach Rd? I recall pre-Covid a lot of coaches used to unload and pick up Chinese off and onto boats to Koh Larn. They didn't need no fancy pedestrian crossings. We will still have near stationary traffic in front of Central Festival and at the Tai corner. The very large vehicles are the problem.....

But in Thailand there no parking places/garages to park your vehicle....Where do people park their cars now if they want to go to the beach?? as we all know Thai people don't like to walk and always park as close as possible to the place they have to be... In other streets?? than there will be a problem in there.... Why not make a parkinglot somewhere and than don't allow to park anymore on the beach street...Probably they haven't thought about alternatives

As everyone continues on & ignores the ‘new’ regulation, by next week all will be forgotten about….  Just too much effort for the police to enforce… it was all just a misunderstanding!

Here's an idea... why don't they stop cars parking in any areas that aren't residential in Thailand and stop <deleted>**ing cars and bikes parking on pavements. and build some car parks and get the thais to learn that their legs can do a motion called walking <deleted>  I never known a nation so against walking anywhere. Rant over

Indeed. Why didn't they just leave it like this? Why can't they heed the astute pronouncements of the ANF Bureau of Urban Planning?

 

 

Yeah, Thais, as we all know, are just always screwing things up. Similarly, Bangkok was once a truly great city, with manageable tourism.

Built a lot, dept stores and malls have parking. Would more parking lots solve the traffic problem in BKK? Of course not. Otherwise, more would have been built, cheap "solution." Los Angeles tried it. How'd that work?

 

BKK also has the taxi fleet, buses, BTS, and MRT. Neither all that transport NOR the stopping of cars and bikes parking anywhere they want ever solved the traffic problem.

 

And Thais do quite a bit of walking to and from stops and stations. In the tropical heat of Thailand, walking isn't the experience it is in northern climes, BTW. Most foreigners are ALSO quite happy to take the BTS (or baht bus in Pattaya) to avoid walking in that heat as well. They drive their cars and bikes same as Thais, if they have them.

 

The better the infrastructure (not just transport), the greater the economic growth and the larger the population taking advantage of it and supporting it. Central Festival (or CP) helped pay for an upgrade to the electric grid to make the mall possible. The mall helped bring in a lot more tourists and traffic to Pattaya, even though it has a parking lot. The festivals started up to cash in. The road needed widening . . . . 

 

So it has been in Pattaya, even with its limited development. That's why implementing your idea would make little difference in the long run, just as it hasn't in BKK.

The powers that be, have no need to experience the difficulties of the common man.

 

I went to Bali Hai a couple weeks ago to go on a boat.

 

A HUGE (new looking) parking lot was blocked off totally.

 

Another parking lot, across from it, mentioning "free" parking was immediately approched by a guy on a motorcycle demanding 100 baht.

 

Well, obviously I paid, but until the blokes who run things, try to live as the "normal" man, and experience these things, things will never change.
