Thailand’s transport minister Saksayam ordered to cease performing his duty

Transport Minister Saksayam Chidchob has been ordered by the Constitutional Court to cease performing his duty, effective today (Friday), after the court accepted a complaint from 54 opposition MPs, alleging that the minister is the owner of Buri Charoen Construction Limited Partnership.

 

According to Section 187 of the Constitution, a minister cannot hold a stake in or be involved in the management of a business. Violation of the provision will result to the loss of the ministerial post, as stipulated in Section 170 of the charter.

 

Saksayam has the right to defend himself before the court within 15 days of receiving the court order to cease work.

Minister suspended from duties after top court accepts suit from MPs linking him with business

Minister of Transport Saksayam Chidchob, a key Bhumjaithai Party senior minister in the government since 2019, was suspended from his duties after the Constitutional Court, on Friday, agreed to take up a case against him alleging a breach of Section 187 of the Constitution for being an active executive in the family firm which is prohibited as a government minister. He denies the claims and will have 15 days to reply to the petition once he receives a copy after Friday’s hearing.

The removal of Minister of Transport Saksayam Chidchob comes just days after he warned prolific whistleblower Chuwit Kamolvisit that he had only 13 days to substantiate allegations of irregularities linked with Bangkok mass transit projects. The petition to remove the minister was prompted by allegations made in mid-February during a Section 152 two-day debate on the government’s performance.

 

Transport Minister Saksayam Chidchob was dramatically suspended from his duties on Friday after the Constitutional Court accepted a petition filed through the House of Representatives Speaker Chuan Leekpai seeking to have him removed for a breach of Section 187 of the Constitution claiming his involvement with a private firm or partnership. The development comes days after Mr Chuwit Kamolvisit, the activist whistleblower, alleged irregularities with the ministry’s handling of key infrastructure projects in Bangkok and comments by the minister on Tuesday before his last cabinet meeting suggesting the possibility of defamation proceedings.

 

 Thailand’s Constitutional Court, on Friday, suspended the country’s Minister of Transport Saksayam Chidchob from actively carrying out his duties with immediate effect after it accepted a case brought against him through a petition of 54 opposition MPs in parliament.

The fact is that on the news you find only reports about corrupted officials, politicians, police etc

I rarely read about positive stories, except for lauding honest taxi driver returning lost money

Reminds me of the good old days of cowboys and corruption in Queensland with the long time Premier Joh Bjekle-Peterson. His mate Russ Hinze was Minister for Roads and Transport I think it was.

He owned, built a massive gravel and aggregate business empire of the back of huge (all) the contracts to supply the Queensland Government with every stone and every ton of sand used to build roads, railways, etc across the state.

After he became Minister his small business exploded!

He became a multi-millionaire of of the back of those contracts. 

He yelled loudly as did Peterson that there was; 'No conflict iof interest to se here.' lol ???? Priceless!

It is likely that every minister here would be fired, if they investigated them. The stench is obscene. If not for corruption, than for malfeasance or inability to perform the job effectively, like in the case of Anutin, Prayuth, Prawit, Phiphat, or the Big Joke.

They think that corruption does not exist "back home"    It does.    However the "system" has ensured that this advantageous method of achieving ones objectives is out of reach of "normal" people, It operates at a much higher level,  Its difficult to make contact with the necessary people ,  (government ministers, police chiefs etc. etc ) and the amounts of money required are  way too high.

             Social engineering, and petty jealousy  have  ensured that those who don't have enough money to avail themselves of this practice are generally not in favour of it.  An example would be the scorn poured on people who pay money to jump hospital waiting lists by "going private"   or who choose to pay money to provide a better education for their kids.  The criticism, understandably,  always comes from those to poor to play the game, and who feel that they are missing out 

              But this is not  "back home"  and nobody needs to feel they are missing out,  thankfully corruption is much more accessible here and  its often quite reasonably priced , when compared to the alternative.  Many difficult situations can  be made less difficult if one is prepared to play the game and  be a little "generous " when required. 

               People  can huff and puff with righteous indignation all they  like but they will be doing it from  " the back of the queue"  or as they return home without their visa extension or whatever.    They should spend more time trying to  assimilate into this fascinating aspect of  Thai "culture"  but if , like price haggling at the market, they just can't bring themselves to do it, then they should  leave it to the missis (but i suggest setting a limit first)

Now I think Chuwit might have some personal safety concerns?

 

Cannabis "normalization" is most definitely at risk.

I get the feeling cannabis "normalisation" is and will be permanently on thin ice for the foreseeable future. 

Although that is completely unjustified .    It's been what ?  9 months now ?  and the predicted breakdown of society just  hasn't happened . All the doom-mongering so called experts have been proven wrong  Surely somebody somewhere can see sense? I mean the facts speak for themselves    A country was plunged into unregulated cannabis availability and usage , no draconian restrictions have been implemented re driving for example and it all seems to be working very well. If this was a social experiment it would be hailed as a total success   (apart from that guy who cut his own cock off lol)

But wait… this can’t be true. Prayut promised he was going to rid Thailand of corrupt officials. That is the reason he stated when he staged a coup and overthrew a democratically elected government. I think he also said something about not wanting the prime minister’s job and bringing happiness to the people. There must be a misunderstanding here.

Recall at one stage Hinze was referred to as the minister for everything. He collected a few of them, most concurrently.
