The missing 8-month-old baby boy may have been eaten by fish or other animals in the canal and police will decide today (Thursday) whether to end the search, as the boy went missing from home in Bang Len district of Nakhon Pathom on February 5th.

Pol Gen Surachate Hakparn, the national deputy police chief, said today that Bang Luang police have been instructed to question the mother of the missing baby, 17-year-old Nim, further on certain issues which remain unclear, before wrapping up the case.

He said that police have also consulted provincial public prosecutors about how to handle the case and the indictment of Nim, adding that police handling the case believe that the teenage mother lied to them about the fate of the baby, while her partner had told the truth.

Naew Na Thai Caption: Nong Tor case nears end

The case of a teenage mum who threw her 8 month old infant in a klong is drawing to a close one month after the boy went missing.

The mother has admitted throwing her child in a klong but exactly why still remains to be seen.

Pol Lt-Gen Surachate "Big Joke" Hakpan, who was brought in after the Bang Luang, Nakhon Pathom police messed things up, said the mother has lied about everything.

The search for the boy is expected to end soon and the case be finalised. Care must be taken that it is wrapped up properly.

Surachate said it was possible that animals had eaten the child.

He also responded to reporters' questions about why the child's step father - also a teen - will not face human trafficking charges. It was earlier reported that he had prostituted the infant's mum to an uncle, reported Naew Na.

Surachate said the sum involved was 200-300 baht and the stepfather had used the money for houshold expenses and the nature of the offence was not in the public interest to prosecute on this occasion.

The young girl lied to Police for weeks. Throw her own child in the water to die.

Previously when the toddler had  39 in fever, she returned home from hospital without treatment for the toddler. Lack of money, she claimed.

A extreme sad case, that highlight the need fot better social services, mental help for youths, obligatory follow up of all teenage mothers, and totally free medical service for their children.

One can only wish.

RIP little one. Sadly you never had a chance.

You have got to be kidding.  Lost a lot of respect for him.

Thousand of kids and youngsters living in the same sad circumstance in thailand and open for everybody to see (who want to see with their own eyes).
That's the other side of "Beautiful Thailand".
A country which earns billions of bath yearly on tourism, but don't have a little bit money to give proper child care to their citizens.
