I need to mail my US passport to the embassy for renewal. Can I apply for 30 day TV extension with all pages photocopied only? Any other special documents needed to do this?

    Not possible, no exceptions. You will definitely need your original passport when you apply for an extension.

    I don't think 30 days would be enough time to get a new passport. You may want to read the thread on US Passport wait times.
