Don't worry, the quickest way to ruin a 'pristine' beach is to advertize it. Should be nicely befouled and generally ruined this time next month.

Sad but true of all hidden or little known gems. Publicised as just that and the people will come, and ruin it. Ruining the planet is the human way.

The website indicated Thailand is well known for its beautiful beaches.

And what happens to them after exploitation.

There are many others in Thailand worthy of being on the list, Rok Island was one of my favourites, Bamboo Island as long as they can keep the mass tourist away,

You make a good point, this award is about as pointless as awarding the best volcanoes or mountains in the world.

They exist naturally despite the people who live near them.

Shame they don't have a look under the water at these Thai beaches before ranking them.  The coral and marine ecosystem in front of Freedom beach is absolutely destroyed.

The seawater is also toxic with fecal coliform counts way above any Western safety limit.

I remember about 40 years ago, Ao Ton Sai beach at Koh Phi Phi was voted number 1 in the world, it doesn't even make this or any list any longer.
