Danderman123 Posted April 18, 2023 Posted April 18, 2023 I don't remember an April as hot as this month. If we don't get rain soon, it's going to be unbearable. And, if Summer is hotter, watch out! I have started working on sunshades for my condo, using solar panels. Anything else useful in cooling my place? Maybe this is just a random weather event, maybe it's the onset of Global Warming 1 5 1 1
Popular Post Crossy Posted April 18, 2023 Popular Post Posted April 18, 2023 "Global Warming" is passé, it's now "Climate Change". Same, same! Climate Change is real enough, just how much of it is caused by us is debatable but it's definitely not "none". 9 1 2 1
Popular Post jacko45k Posted April 18, 2023 Popular Post Posted April 18, 2023 (edited) I recall hot weather like this many times over the years.... when I foolishly arrived here as a tourist without thinking about the time of year. More recently I often left the country late April for UK to enjoy the spring snow there! I have put a large cloth screen up to keep the afternoon sun off my bedroom wall. Although doing the job in the heat caused me a few wobbles! Sun is at it's closest now as it heads North... post Songkran is traditionally the time of year the heat breaks with rain! Climate change is the result of global warming, following as night follows day. Global warming is the Second Law of Thermodynamics in operation. Climate change is the First Law of Thermodynamics at work as a consequence. The ship has already sailed as far as scientists are concerned, when it comes to global warming being caused by anthropomorphic emissions of carbon dioxide. The evidence is overwhelming. I'm not a climatologist so no argument from me, the two terms get used interchangeably in the media with Climate Change being more prevalent. It's not really that long ago that we were "heading for a mini ice-age" due to "global dimming", I wonder where that went 5 1 2

Try finding a journalist who has any scientific training, let alone in thermodynamics. IIRC, the ice age was supposed to happen if we had a nuclear winter. 1 3

Overnight is cool and pleasant and the morning the same, by around 10:30/11 it's started to become too hot for me to work outside (I'm a young/strong 73). Inside the house we run aircon on dehumidify mode from mid day until we go to bed, that all we need to get the temperature down....humidity readings here are circa 75%. 2

Don't buy any real estate in Bangkok. The recent storm that carved a narrow path through Chiang Mai a couple of weeks ago was a real eye opener for me. It started on the edge of town and weaved its way through town, zig zagging erratically until it found our house and garden. It's path was never more than a couple of hundred meters wide but the hail stones were the size of tennis balls and the winds more powerful than any I could ever possibly imagine, let alone ever seen firsthand (and I've been through a hurricane in Miami years ago). It was truly frightening experience, I expected the roof to go but fortunately it held, several large trees in our garden didn't, neither did the electric polls on our soi. Call it what you will, it's a seriously bad and it's getting worse, we're now prepping for the next one! 1
Popular Post BE88 Posted April 19, 2023 Popular Post Posted April 19, 2023 In the last few months there have been large explosions of magma on the sun and evidently the earth has received more solar heat which is what has increased the temperatures on earth I am not an expert to state it but it is reasonably possible to think so. There is no doubt that the earth has undergone several changes due to the sun and the only solution would be to put a thermostat on the sun to be able to regulate the temperature and not make us these continuous mood swings. 1 2 1
Popular Post Pink Mist Posted April 19, 2023 Popular Post Posted April 19, 2023 La Nina has left the building and El Nino has arrived. It is so much hotter than last year. Just paid the PEA bill and ugh....8965 THB. I can only imagine next month's being higher, but maybe not. The average high is between 3 and 5 Celsius per day higher this year and any other year so far at the house. I have kept daily records thanks to my weather setup. 4 3

Top tips to reduce that bill: Paint your roof white or at least a light colour, we did and it reduced our leccy bills massively. Run air con on dehumidify mode, it's highly effective and halves the cost. Shade the windows with external wood blinds, where possible, they reduce internal temperature significantly. Have the wife bring you cold beers throughout the day, the less you exert yourself the less you will sweat.' Our leccy bill, 100 square meters living space, single story, very high pitch roof, well insulated attic floor, 4 air con units (never more than dehumidify mode), two people but wife contant baking throughout the day, never more than 2,200 month, typically 1,500, last month 1,200. 3 1 1

Interesting. Therefore nothing to do with Global Warming causing Climate Change. The reason we are hotter is because someone's throwing more coal on the fire! 1 2 1

My AC cycled in that mode (fan on/off), but it brought the temperature down to 23 degC.. which I could not adjust on my unit. (Daikin). Usually I set it to 25degC cooling/ nighttime mode. 1

KhunLA Posted April 19, 2023 Posted April 19, 2023 (edited) @Danderman123 "I have started working on sunshades for my condo, using solar panels." Smart move, I like it. Are they fixed, if south facing or adjustable, if E or W facing. Got me thinking now for a small project, as have no E facing panels now. Haven't noticed temps being any hotter or cooler, as March & April have always been brutal. Did have a seemingly longer rainy season last year, though may have only noticed, since solar was installed then. But from chit chat here, seems well into late Oct, overcast & still raining most areas. Edited April 19, 2023 by KhunLA 1

Your aircon unit needs to have a dehumidify mode, if it does (and most have) there is no associated temperature setting or control it's either dehumidify or nothing. Using aircon in this way is long established and proven practise, I thought everyone understood this. It's a fact of science that if you lower the humidity, the air feels cooler. 1 1

Popular Post spidermike007 Posted April 19, 2023 Popular Post Posted April 19, 2023 Climate change is real, and we caused it. We are currently behaving as if we have multiple alternative planets to move it. The degree of recklessness mankind is showing towards this precious and remarkable planet is an abomination. Dumping raw sewage in the open seas, tankers dispersing massive amounts of waste into the sea, obsessive consumption of plastic, the use of old, poorly maintained diesel vehicles, coal fired plants, the list goes on. We are not responsible stewards of this planet. 3 1 1 1 2
