Police in the Isaan province of Udon Thani came to the aid of a vagrant nine year old boy attempting to walk 18 kilometres back home. The boy fled his home due to an allegedly abusive father and was living alone in an abandoned house.

On Tuesday, April 18, a 31 year old officer from Chai Wan Police Station, Anusorn Homhuan, rushed to help a driver whose car was broken down on the Baan Kham-Baan Kham Ror Road. While travelling back to the police station, the officer spotted a little boy, later identified as Beer, walking barefoot on the road.

Anusorn stopped to speak to Beer and learned about the child’s situation. He offered to give Beer a ride home but was saddened to discover that the boy was living alone in a house with no pillows, blankets, furniture or electric appliances.

Beer told Anusorn that he ran away from his father’s house to live alone because he abused him and did not let him go to school. He told the officer that he had to sneak out early in the morning if he wanted to go to school. So, he ran away from home.

Beer said he survived by asking for food from his local temple and community, and sometimes he earned 50 to 60 baht by watering plants for his teacher.

Sad. Where was the mother, divorced isn't dead. The poor little kid has had life's troubles thrust on him at an early stage, an intelligent, independent soul by all accounts.

why are you showing the face of an underage child?

what a pitiful bunch on AN now .....   not one helper ..

Something doesn't quite add up. He is living in a house 18km from his father, but still going to school to water teacher's plants.

Why did the teacher, and the temple folk not ask him where he was living and surviving?

maybe they don't want to get involved ..... although normally they can't mind their own business ... lol

but who knows?

....  the story doesn't give too much detail does it.

Anyway,  obviously he's very poor and no where to turn too ...

he wants to go to school,  his father is abusive to him,  he needs to get outa there and that's what he was doing.

Any 9 yr old boy who is walking 18klms barefoot in this heat alone with no water just to escape gets my sympathy and support.

so he ran away from his abusive father and is staying in an abandoned house near the temple ?

That's what it sounds like to me ...

So where does the 18km fit into this?

wasn't that the distance from his fathers place to the abandoned house where he was going ?

The story does not explain enough ....  but it's obvious he's alone and needs help.

And an excellent long distance walker.
