The Supreme Court on Friday protected access to a widely used abortion drug by freezing lower-court rulings that placed restrictions on its usage.

As a result, the US Food and Drug Administration’s approval of the drug mifepristone and subsequent actions that made it more easily accessible will remain in place while appeals play out -- potentially for months to come.

Justices Clarence Thomas and Samuel Alito publicly dissented.

After delaying its decision earlier this week, the Supreme Court on Friday ruled that full access to the abortion pill mifepristone can continue as a lawsuit works its way through the lower federal courts.

Mifepristone was approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in 2000, and its use has been deregulated in recent years. Under President Biden, the FDA made abortion pills more widely available at retail pharmacies, including delivery by mail.

The ruling by the Supreme Court gives a victory to the Biden administration and supporters of abortion rights, but the Supreme Court will likely be asked to revisit the issue later this year.

No surprise there, Clarence Thomas was one of two judges who publicly dissented.

I don’t trust them I think they were told to hold off to avoid making problems for the retrumplikins

While I'm tempted to believe the other was Coney-Barret my logical self thinks it was probably Alito. I couldn't be bothered checking.

edit: Yes it was Alito
