webfact Posted April 23, 2023 Posted April 23, 2023 Thai textbook causes paediatrician to be concerned. by Samantha Rose A Thai paediatrician worries that a Grade 5 textbook is encouraging bad eating habits. A recent controversy has sparked public debate involving a Thai language textbook for Grade 5 students discussing simplistic and potentially unhealthy meal suggestions, and a paediatrician has expressed deep concern over the limited worldview and nutritional value presented. The textbook contains content depicting a character enjoying a meal consisting of half a boiled egg mixed with fish sauce, or plain rice mixed with stir-fried morning glory as an adequate and satisfying meal. This character’s happiness in having a simple, contented life has led society to question the nutritional needs of children, as well as whether the text is promoting an overly romanticised outlook on life. Popular Post ikke1959 Posted April 23, 2023 Popular Post Posted April 23, 2023 Thai culture..... The most people working at the education ministry have no clue what and how to educate as the schools too.... Long days to study and no freetime as in in the holiday now there are still private classes and summer camps.. Kids can't relax and give their minds rest, and the same is with all the textbooks.. full of mistakes, old fashioned ideas and brainwashing 3 1
SoilSpoil Posted April 24, 2023 Posted April 24, 2023 Had a look at the Science and math books, compiled by educational 'professors', and wouldn't worry too much about nutrition only. Total gibberish and poorly constructed acadenic word choice (p4 books!). I bought the Singaporean and UK books to supplement. 2

dinsdale Posted April 24, 2023 Posted April 24, 2023 The little ones at schools that get free lunches don't get a lot. 1/2 an egg with morning glory and rice, maybe a little bit of so some thin soup is probably enough and reasonably healthy. As for a simple and contented life this is something that the Pilosophy of Economy Sufficiecy Promotes and moderation is one of the three pillars. “Being a tiger is not important. The important thing is for us to have a sufficient economy. A sufficient economy means to have enough to support ourselves…we have to take a careful step backward…each village or district must be relative self-sufficient.” His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej https://www.chaipat.or.th/eng/concepts-theories/sufficiency-economy-new-theory.html
drmal Posted April 24, 2023 Posted April 24, 2023 It's so easy for the "Paediatrician" to say whatever from the expensive condo or township he's staying in with access to weekend hi-so dinners. Maybe driving a Benz or BMW to his workplace too. Egg is a good protein. Rice is good for energy. Just give the poor kids some vegetables and fruits to complete the meal, if not given. 1
BangkokReady Posted April 24, 2023 Posted April 24, 2023 Can anyone understand from the picture whether it actually says this food is a full meal and recommends it, or is it just a picture with the text saying something different?
