Totally different circumstances. The whole world knows how the USA treated those people. But checks here are on people having a night out while on vacation, not because they might have sneaked across borders. Being Thai, they imagine that the world is queuing up to settle in their paradise, when in fact the situation is the opposite, with Thais trying to illegally stay in other countries to enjoy a higher income and better lifestyle. Foreigners do not want to come illegally to Thailand so they can suffer a lower standard of living. Except from neighbouring countries, but those people are often not the target of the authorities.

Well I see that you're here to argue, but I'm not going to it to you. Nor am I going to go any further into the subject. I've got more important things to do and more positive things to think about.

who wants to come here and be subjected to this sort of abuse? These people were actually detained for doing absolutly nothing wrong

100 percent correct. They were also subjected to a piss test.

Can anyone reference the law or show me a link to this?

Do I need to comply with a piss test request by law?

During the inspection, the team visited the Hollywood Pub located on Phetchtrakul Road and found tover 300 tourists, both Thai and foreigners.

Surprising what you'll find in a nightclub, how genius of them.

Ah yes. I'm sure this is the most important thing on the RTP's docket.

No drugs. No violent crime. Just overstays.

Man, Pattaya must have changed a lot (spoiler alert, it hasn't).

Some of these guys should get up early in the morning and deal with the massive party every day on Jomtien Beach all night and morning where all kinds of laws are being broken. Drugs are being sold in the open. But I guess that's less important to them.

Damn I need to walk 4 minutes to the beach more often at night????

"The team tested 81 Chinese people, 28 Hong Kong people, 27 Koreans, 3 Taiwanese, 2 Laotians, and 41 employees. Fortunately, no illicit substances were discovered, and nobody was found to be overstaying their visas or entering the country unlawfully."

"The successful outcome of this operation underscores the importance of such collaborations in maintaining the safety and security of both citizens and tourists in Thailand."

The successful outcome of this operation......

So the plan was to not find any overstayers?

Probably safer to holiday some place else, just to avoid being, possibly, hassled every other week.

Yes, overstayers, and people who entered illegally are known to hang out at these clubs...

Eat this stupid Thai police has nothing else todo than all the time publish how much they want to catch overstaying foreigners. As if this is crime number one. They should ca about serious crimes within their own offices and thee many killings that happen. Thailand will not be hurt but will always profit from overstayers since they spend money every day. In times when even the high season i so much a low season they should be praying to have more people in Thailand not less. They just never ever get the point. We foreigners are the most important income for this 3.world country and are still not treated with respect. It is always the bad farang who do something. Never the many many criminal Somchai Thais and the  colonels and generals. Pisses me off to read on daily bais something where Thais go against us instead of protecting us and treating us friendly and respectfully like in other Asian countries.

I do know. It's a regular event in the Philippines as well. Or was a few years ago when I was there.

It's different in the Philippines. Over there the police are looking for foreigners to extort. They look or invent a reason to lock them up and ask for large payments for release. They really focus on Koreans.

Seems like no shortage of posters around here claim that Thai police are looking to extort foreigners. Which is it?

If it was, they wouldn't be allowing filming or official reporting of the event. Maybe this is an attempt to keep their jobs and look like they are doing something useful. They had a long period during covid when they had nothing to do.

So they hassled more than 100 bona fide tourists and netted zero overstayers.

What a great way to make tourists feel welcome, while doing absolutely nothing to keep the country safe.

The mission was carried out with the participation of over 50 tourist police officers and investigative police officers.

The operation was conducted in accordance with the policies of Pol. Gen. Surachet Hakpal, Deputy Commander-in-Chief of Police, and Pol. Lt. Gen. Itthipol Itthisaronchai, Commander-in-Chief of Police Region 2, and was overseen by Pol Maj Gen Kumpol Leelaprapaporn, Chief of Police in Chonburi Province.

The officers immediately called in a search team and segregated the Thai nationals from the foreigners, as well as the men from the women.

During the inspection, the team visited the Hollywood Pub located on Phetchtrakul Road and found tover 300 tourists, both Thai and foreigners.

Did they check the employees for "Protitution" as well?
Or do they need to call in another team to check for "Prostitution"?

Well, that's well over a hundred visitors having their evening ruined for apparently no end result. Maybe the police's intelligence was faulty. I'm sure that this information will get back to the relevant countries and deter many others from visiting despite the best work of TAT.

There's been a LOT worse than this happen to tourists over the years, and it never hurts Teflon Thailand.

The big global hanna-hanna over Thai haze will be forgotten with the first good monsoon and they will as always come in their millions, and for the most part, we won't leave until we're all eventually booted. Not an impossibility the way things are going.

So did all the various people who had committed no criminal offense receive an apology from the police and immigration police after the raid? Especially after the indignity of being forced to give a urine test at 10:30pm.

One wonders what would have happened if you refused the test?
