Chaiyaphum

Featured Replies

Taking the mrs for a trip around. Hitting up the best temples plus landscapes. What's this town like to stay in? After which Lom Sak which gives access to temples there in Phetchabun. It looks ok. Then up to Loei.

If you have any great ideas for these provinces let me know please.

If you want so slightly cooler (4-5C) temperatures you should stay in the Khao Kho district in preference to Lom SaK. Drive up HWY 12 to Camp Son (post office spelling, Khaem Son on Google maps). More than a thousand resorts to choose from, from shoe boxes to 5 star. You will also be near the biggest temple in the area, Wat Phra Thart Pha Sorn Kaew, but try to visit on week days as the weekends can be crowded.

+1 for Khao Kho.  Been a few times when in the area.  Very nice.

Ok i will look at resorts. Other temples and caves in area too. Yes week day better. Very famous temple.

Referring to your plan, I see you intend using route 201 via Chaiyaphum to Loei. Chaiyaphum is a busy provincial city and can be avoided by a ring road. Follow signs 201 LOEI. Eventually after a pleasant rural drive you will enter Chumphae and join Highway 12. Continue westwards on HWY 12 to Lomsak. This will take you through the vast and spectacular Nam Nao National Park. HWY 12 becomes an ordinary 2-lane road through the park but it is well surfaced. Make sure you have plenty of fuel in your tank as there are no petrol/gasoline stations for 100 kilometres after Chumphae.
