Driver blames brake failure after truck smashes into pharmacy

Those pesky brakes again… A truck driver is pointing the finger at his faulty brakes after crashing his lorry into a Krabi pharmacy. The incident happened on Tuesday afternoon, May 2, in the Mueang district of Krabi, according to a Phuket Express report.

 

Police were notified of the collision on Sri Trang Road, by the Talad Gao Intersection, and arrived to find a truck that had smashed through a pharmacy. While there was significant damage to the property, it’s understood nobody was injured in the collision.

 

According to the 50 year old truck driver, named as Sirisak Chaiudom, he was travelling down a slope when he realised his brakes weren’t working. He says he decided to crash into the side of the road instead of colliding with cars waiting at the traffic lights.

Long time we didn't had one like that, was he missing the lucky amulet as well  555   glad nobody get killed

I was thinking the same, it's Thailand, probably no maintenance since new... 555

Well any competent mechanic could tell if it was brake failure or not. But do they ever check vehicles out when these 'Brake failures" happen, one excuse here once was the steering wheel didn't work.

Accepting the driver's excuse   =  Less paperwork,  & any Mechanic will want money ... Brake failure or failure to brake  more likely

Well they'll want money to get 'em fixed anyway, so his inspection report should count as evidence, and who passed it fit for the road on last inspection anyway.

This could be the very first time that it's actually true after looking at the truck!

It seems Thai’s much prefer to blame inanimate objects than a human... Face saving is such a fundamental facet in the ridiculous excuses we see and hear of on a daily basis and which commonly stem from the avoidance of pointing the finger of fault, blame or responsibly at a human. 

 

In this case, brake failure or not, a human is still at fault and should be accountable for what happened, for this isn’t brake failure... It’s failure of the owner of the truck to maintain the vehicle, its failure of the driver to ensure his truck was in working order. 

 

There are of course social facets involved with such issues in that driver want to be paid and they can’t refuse to drive dangerous unmaintained vehicles, the owner (companies) will simply get another driver.

 

Thus: The underlying issue here is the utter apathy of those enforcing the laws to take action against owners of these vehicles.

And... make no mistake, there are valid laws in place regarding the roadworthiness of vehicles, but as is so very often the case in Thailand the complete lack of enforcement enables corner cutting to such a degree incidents such as this become common place.

Too right, but failure to maintain in a roadworthy condition, plus whatever other laws broken, would incur numerous points and fines in the UK. Any such laws here? MOT? Might kill off all these a claims of "brake failure".

I too wonder how well the brakes were working before he decided to use a building instead!

Should he have even been on the road.
