On May 5, 2023, Immigration 6 Commander Maj. Gen. Praphansak Prasarnsuk ordered the arrest of Mr. Rizki, a 37-year-old Indonesian national found to have overstayed his Thai visa by 1,087 days.

Mr. Rizki's passport showed that he last entered Thailand on December 16, 2019, via the Tak Bai Immigration Checkpoint in Narathiwat Province, reported Siam Rath.

His nonimmigrant (NON-O) visa permitted him to stay in the country until March 14, 2020. On March 11, 2020, Mr. Rizki and his wife applied for an extension to visit his Thai spouse and child, receiving permission to remain until May 13, 2020.

However, Mr. Rizki did not obtain any additional extensions, leading to a visa overstay of 1,087 days.

Pattani Immigration authorities carried out an extensive verification process and, using biometric data, confirmed Mr. Rizki's unauthorized stay in Thailand.

He was arrested on charges of overstaying his visa by 1,087 days. Mr. Rizki confessed to hiding in the country, as he did not wish to return to Indonesia after his visa expired.

Pattani Immigration officers apprehended him in the Piyamumang Subdistrict, Yaring District, Pattani Province.

This arrest is part of a wider crackdown on immigration violations in the Pattani region, taking place ahead of upcoming elections.

You would think  Immigration should be able to track people once they are logged into the system a lot better ????

Would have thought with today's technology the system should red flag people once their visa date is up ????

yeah, that statement confused me a little too.

I think they mean he applied for a 1 year extension based on marriage accompanied by his Thai wife. He's probably not bothered subsequently because as a Bahasa speaking Muslim he would blend in pretty well in the local community, and I doubt immigration give Narathiwat a high priority; not going to risk the Sa-Mart BMW down there.
