yes ....  agree , he should have been given full access to his medication .... there's no excuse for keeping them from him,  although hand them to him as prescribed/required. 

he should be treated like any other drug offender and given food etc ...

I very much doubt that those ’tablets’ found in the possession of the Kiwi did not pass through the hands of a Police or Military at some point in their journey to the streets.

Correct me if I am wrong, but isn't the IDC hell on earth?  Why is he complaining?  

It's common knowledge: Stay away from drugs and people taking drugs when in Thailand, so you are not in the wrong place at the wrong time.

He was out on bail since September, Went to court pleaded guilty, got a small fine, made to sleep naked, I doubt that. Must have acted like a d..k, towards the officers. cause if he hadnt and spoke correctly, they would have provided him with, at his cost, food and shower, plus allowed him to access his belongings. plus if he had used a lawyer and offered to purchase a ticket to fly home in the court hearing, he wouldn't be in the jail. he would be gone. Sad thing is, here in Thailand with entertainment and booze, he had to use drugs. So, suffer he must.

<sarcasm> This is shocking.  I had always heard that Thai jails were very hospitable.  </sarcasm>

The difference is in the UK and US you may get away, slagging the police, but here noway. He plea guilty, and should talk to them, instead of acting smug, but, with remorse. Sweet mouth goes along way in Thailand, no matter how false it may be.

You have no idea what you are talking about.

For the last half century people have been flocking to thailand in droves to get high and dance on the beach. The Bangkok nightclub scene is awash with cocaine and to a smaller extent MDMA. There is a good chance your lawyer or accoutant does bumps in the bar on friday night. 

 

I have been in nightclub raid where so many people tested positive that cops simply went home rather than dealing with all the petty charges they would have to file.   

There is a risk, surely, but this Kiwi fellow is an outlier. For evey one like him I suspect 1000+++ walk away slightly poorer. I have been one of those 1000 on a couple occasions. I can think of at least 100 others who have simply walked away too. 

 

His treatment was attrocious and i hope it is one of neglect rather than outrigh maliciousness. I cant imagine the reason for such intentional cruelty

I suspect There is soemnthing we dont know about his case -- no police force in thailand want responsibility for a foreigner. He very likely had a chance to pay and walk away, but for one reason or another that did not happen.

I was just wondering IF you read something / somewhere that the police treated the Kiwi in this manner because he was uncooperative etc.

 

I too also consider that some of his treatment may have been brought upon himself through his behaviour... Perhaps he is not mentally well etc....  

 

There is still no excuse for this treatment though, particularly preventing him access to medication.

Well, that has happened in the past... 

 

It used to be a Khao Sarn road favourite... Someone goes with a TukTuk driver to purchase some weed down a sub-soi....  as soon as the deal is made the police pounce and extort the ‘victim’.... 

 

In this case, I wonder why the Kiwi was searched in the first place ?... what triggered the Police to search his pockets ??????

So, all prisoners in cells (police detention) are stripped and not given water or food for three days ???

 

That seems a stretch for this to be the norm,  even for Thailand...

 

As n00dle wrote... some thing else perhaps going on here...  Revenge for him refusing to pay out his bribe of 100,000 baht (or however much) and instead seeing it through to court where the fine is significantly less... BiB annoyed that their hard work didn’t pay off  ???   As others have pointed out, the Kiwi rubbed that in their faces / misbehaved  etc etc ??

They warned him to be cautious about publicising the situation on social media, saying “please be mindful of the potential of comments on social media to worsen your situation. We encourage you to focus on sorting out your case. If anything does not sound right, do think twice and be careful before acting."

The official said they had been in touch with the lawyer and local police, who reported that he had been throwing water at other detainees and police officers. Salinger said he had never thrown water at people.

Salinger’s pregnant partner Vanessa Pagarigan came over from the couple’s home in the Phillipines at the time of the arrest to help him. Pagarigan has been rushing between the court and the jail, bringing Salinger bottles of water. But no change of clothes?  plus “He has a son in Australia who wonders whether he will ever see him again,”

And he does deserve sympathy - his treatment is inhumane.

 

People like yourself would have the same response to someone caught with weed a couple of years ago...   

When I read the subject of this post I just knew that the milk of human kindness would be in full flow for this unfortunate fellow.
