Former UKIP leader blames Tory government for not taking advantage of leaving the EU

LONDON — Nigel Farage, one of the biggest advocates of Britain’s departure from the European Union, reckons Brexit has failed.

 

Speaking on the BBC’s Newsnight program Monday night, the former Brexit Party leader — one of the most famous figureheads of the Brexit cause — admitted the U.K. had not benefited economically from leaving the bloc.

 

“What Brexit has proved, I’m afraid, is that our politicians are about as useless as the commissioners in Brussels. We’ve mismanaged this totally,” Farage said, responding to a raft of data suggesting there had been a negative economic impact of Brexit.

 

“Brexit has failed,” he added. “We’ve not delivered on Brexit and the Tories have let us down very, very badly.”

You need to listen to his whole speech to understand what he meant and what he was saying , rather than just concentrate on three words and ignoring the previous words and  what he said afterwards and to listen to the question  asked

What he is saying is that Brexit was not properly done, in reference to the shilly-shallying antics, half in / half out compromises and dithering by the UK parliament and judges in not implementing what the majority voted for.

When they discussed Brexit in the house of commons I was fascinated by following the discussions as advertised by the Guardians blog. Every night I was very well entertained., but I thought they would not really do it - or would they ?

 

Yes, they did it with a big misconception in mind: The rise of a new independent British Empire. It was absolutely clear that this had no future and misery would follow. I am sad for the many people so badly affected. but finally have to conclude: You reap what you sow.

I remember the one who might share the same barber as Trump did mention it some times. I dont mean an Empire with international reach as a long time before (well they have some islands overseas even now), but an independend region like folks on an island tend to like.

What was there to implement? They had no plan.  They spent the years between the referendum and Brexit running round like headless chickens, not bothering to gen up on how much the UK depended on the EU for both exports and imports of food, to mention just one vital commodity. Nor on how much documentation would be required by the EU for imports and exports once we ceased to be a member.
They ignored the problem of the Good Friday Agreement (signalled loud and clear the day after the Referendum by both Fintan O'Toole in the Irish Times and Joyce MacMillan in The Scotsman, to name but two). They ignored the preparations for a possible pandemic recommended by their own committee in 2018. They ignored all the advice from the civil service. They continued to draw down higher salaries than 95% of UK taxpayers, plus ludicrously generous expenses, while complaining they weren't paid enough.

They were only concerned with pleasing their donors and backers who wanted to evade the EU's crackdown on tax havens which might have negatively affected their excessive wealth.
And for that, they threw away the best deal any EU member had - in Schengen but not in the Eurozone, in control of its own borders (yes, we were) and able to influence EU legislation because of its historic ties and reputation - the latter now completely trashed.

But there are stilll people who believe against all the evidence that Nigel Farage (who ran off to get EU passports for his family the day after the referendum result) or Jacob Rees-Mogg (who moved his tax-efficient company to Dublin) do care a toss about anyone other than themselves.

37.5% of the electorate and a very narrow majority of those who voted voted to Leave in a referendum that was sold to the House of Commons as "advisory" . There was no White Paper explaining what would happen. There was no proper discussion of the full consequences. So a narrow majority voted Leave without the slightest idea of what it entailed.
Let me remind you that when the Scottish electorate voted for devolution in 1979, it was disallowed as it did not represent 40% of the electorate. Why was this not applicable to the UK electorate in a decision with far greater consequences?

He's not wrong about that. Why people believed that the likes of Boris would be able to make Brexit a success is anyone's guess. They're nothing more than entitled brats from a select few inbred families, completely useless.

 

In Brussels, you have at least a good mix of various flavors of incompetence and corruption, not this inbred Tory monoculture. ????

Not up to the rebirth of a British Empire, but there was great hope that the commonwealth countries would compensate for the loss of some EU trade: “Outside the EU the world is our oyster, and the Commonwealth the pearl within” (UKIP)

Of course, it didn't happen, just like the other promises made or suggested.

The U.K and India have agreed on trade deals between the two Countries since the U.K left the EU and they are currently in talks about  Free trade deal .

   The U.K has also agreed trade deals with Australia ...........and Singapore and numerous African Countries .

  So, it did indeed happen

The only thing he is capable of doing is saying: You didn't do it right. And maybe: I would have done it right.

If you would have listened to him, you would have heard that he is saying that the Tory Government have failed to deliver the Brexit that the U.K voted for and that they have failed in their task

What new trade deals has the UK negotiated with India and "numerous African countries" since the UK left the EU?
