Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis will announce he is running for president during a discussion with Twitter CEO Elon Musk, three sources familiar with the plans told NBC News.

Musk and DeSantis will host an event on Twitter Spaces, the site’s platform for audio chats, on Wednesday at 6 p.m. ET. It will be moderated by David Sacks, a tech entrepreneur who is a Musk confidant and DeSantis supporter.

That same evening, the campaign will release a launch video, and DeSantis will begin visiting several early states after Memorial Day.

DeSantis better be prepared to get dirty.  Otherwise, khun Trump will btch-slap him into oblivion.

A PAC aligned with Trump put out a preemptive attack ad which is catchy. You can google Ron DeSalesTax.  I'm just an observer and have no dog in this fight.

One thing that the good Governor needs to be careful about is the urge to be "Trump, but without the baggage". That is IMHO a losing message. Bill Maher put it quite well when he said something like, "who would go see a cover band when the real band is still playing?" DeSantis has to establish his own brand.

There are also candidates like Tim Scott to consider. He is going for the 'happy warrior conservative' vote. He does have a very compelling life story to tell and no hint of scandal that I can see.

Poor Florida.

So far from God and so close to south Georgia.

I didn't even expect DeSantis to run.. He has many negatives.

But I guess he's hoping that Trump self destructs by getting multiple serious felony convictions.

But he's not alone in that.

Anyone has to be better than the two geriatrics in the frame at the moment

That depends on many variables in my opinion!

A few examples , PAC money sponsors, politicians endorsements and most importantly past job experience imop !

Sometimes ya gotta go with the peace makers when other countries are warring imop

In any case Biden is much better than Trump. I understand most Americans don't want either but that's the most likely match up

Don't know much about Desantis, but like the headliners I see.

... I'm against most abortions of 'convenience', for lack of a better word.

... I like citizens being allowed to defend themselves against career criminals

... I like that he 'reopened' the state, during covid, probably saved many businesses and people's livelihood, unlike some other states.

... I like schools getting back to teaching science & math, instead of teachers subbing for parents, and their lack of (IMHO) parenting on social issues at home.

Going to be lots of mud slinging, for those wanting the hot seat for 2024

He is also 44 years old.   Perfect age to be president imho.  80 is far too old for any job and there really should be a max age limit of 65 considering the demands of this post.

Much as I enjoyed the Trump years, I dont want to see him again.  Four years older and more bitter, doesnt seem to have learned any kind of political skills, and probably will lose-  UNLESS he can convince a very popular GOP hopeful to be his VP. I fear we may be in for the Joe Show for another 4 years.

Roll on Beauty and the Beast! Kristi/Christie 2024.

Nice to see you embracing reality.  A Trump/DeSantis ticket might be rather formidable.  And DeSantis would be able to slide right in as the nominee in 2028 with Trump's full blessing.  But that would never happen.  And seriously, the guy at the top of the ticket is the ONLY one that matters.  And Trump cannot win a general election.

Trump first, DeSantis second Tim Scot third, what a strong team. But we really need Trump in first to clean up the mess that America is in now. Trump 2024 he's your man.

If you want a fascist dictator.

People calling everbody right from Orcasio-Cortez a fascist don't know much about facism.

Yea, I don't understand the obsession with labels, since many obviously don't know what they mean, or the meaning has changed over the years.

When people start using labels, I stop listening to them.  There really is no one size fits all for anyone.  People simply aren't that 1 dimensional.

People don't want socialism or communism, but they want free universal healthcare.

People don't want the state to control businesses, want free enterprise, but then cry about the price gouging, and high profits of corporations providing necessities: gas, water, electric.

If anyone thinks a fascist dictator is possible in the USA, they failed civics ed, and haven't a clue how the govt works.  3 branches, checks & balances, and a military, that doesn't have to answer to anyone.

The Constitution rocks

It's worked just fine for 230+ yrs.

It's much more fragile than you think.

Not really ... one person, especially the President, is fairly powerless.  Nothing but a mouthpiece to represent and convey policy, possibly his, hers or its.

One party is fairly powerless, even both parties together are powerless if going up against the Constitution.

No 1 person or party can dictate anything for more than 2 or 4 years.  Even their decisions get held up in courts till approved or shot down, if & when challenged.
