onthedarkside
Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis will announce he is running for president during a discussion with Twitter CEO Elon Musk, three sources familiar with the plans told NBC News. Musk and DeSantis will host an event on Twitter Spaces, the site’s platform for audio chats, on Wednesday at 6 p.m. ET. It will be moderated by David Sacks, a tech entrepreneur who is a Musk confidant and DeSantis supporter. That same evening, the campaign will release a launch video, and DeSantis will begin visiting several early states after Memorial Day. https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/2024-election/ron-desantis-presidential-bid-campaign-elon-musk-rcna85288

A PAC aligned with Trump put out a preemptive attack ad which is catchy. You can google Ron DeSalesTax. I'm just an observer and have no dog in this fight. Hanaguma
One thing that the good Governor needs to be careful about is the urge to be "Trump, but without the baggage". That is IMHO a losing message. Bill Maher put it quite well when he said something like, "who would go see a cover band when the real band is still playing?" DeSantis has to establish his own brand. There are also candidates like Tim Scott to consider. He is going for the 'happy warrior conservative' vote. He does have a very compelling life story to tell and no hint of scandal that I can see. Popular Post JustAnotherHun
The day Trump told the public he'd run for presideny again was the day, Old Joe has won the elections. Even if Trump does not survive the Rep primaries he will split the Republicans, because surely he's not the man to recommend his followers to vote for DeSantis or another candidate. 2
Jingthing
When it's one republican vs. one democrat in a national election either candidate can win no matter how outlandish. As long as Trump breathes, he remains a threat.
Jingthing
Poor Florida. So far from God and so close to south Georgia. I didn't even expect DeSantis to run.. He has many negatives. But I guess he's hoping that Trump self destructs by getting multiple serious felony convictions. But he's not alone in that. 1

KhunLA
Don't know much about Desantis, but like the headliners I see. ... I'm against most abortions of 'convenience', for lack of a better word. ... I like citizens being allowed to defend themselves against career criminals ... I like that he 'reopened' the state, during covid, probably saved many businesses and people's livelihood, unlike some other states. ... I like schools getting back to teaching science & math, instead of teachers subbing for parents, and their lack of (IMHO) parenting on social issues at home. Going to be lots of mud slinging, for those wanting the hot seat for 2024 Edited May 24, 2023 by KhunLA 1

Four years older and more bitter, doesnt seem to have learned any kind of political skills, and probably will lose- UNLESS he can convince a very popular GOP hopeful to be his VP. I fear we may be in for the Joe Show for another 4 years. Roll on Beauty and the Beast! Kristi/Christie 2024. 1

Perfect age to be president imho. 80 is far too old for any job and there really should be a max age limit of 65 considering the demands of this post.

And DeSantis would be able to slide right in as the nominee in 2028 with Trump's full blessing. But that would never happen. And seriously, the guy at the top of the ticket is the ONLY one that matters. And Trump cannot win a general election.

Choice between that and a potted plant, give me the dictator. Anyway, hopefully some new blood will be injected on both sides. I can only imagine what a debate between DeSantis and Biden would be like. IMHO, Governor Ron is smart enough to let Biden stumble along and reveal his inadequacies. Trump didnt have that kind of discipline, and it cost him. DeSantis and Scott? Powerful combo. 2

Yea, I don't understand the obsession with labels, since many obviously don't know what they mean, or the meaning has changed over the years. When people start using labels, I stop listening to them. There really is no one size fits all for anyone. People simply aren't that 1 dimensional. People don't want socialism or communism, but they want free universal healthcare. People don't want the state to control businesses, want free enterprise, but then cry about the price gouging, and high profits of corporations providing necessities: gas, water, electric.

Nothing but a mouthpiece to represent and convey policy, possibly his, hers or its. One party is fairly powerless, even both parties together are powerless if going up against the Constitution. No 1 person or party can dictate anything for more than 2 or 4 years. Even their decisions get held up in courts till approved or shot down, if & when challenged.
