Brit stabbed to death with sickle by Thai neighbour, inquest hears

An inquest at a court in the UK concluded that a British man died from brain stem and spinal cord contusion after being stabbed in the neck with a sickle by his Thai neighbour in a row over loud music last year.

 

In January 2022, 49 year old Marcus Evans from Somerset, England, was playing music from a Bluetooth speaker and drinking with another Brit, 55 year old Shaun Dagnan, outside of his girlfriend’s house in Mueang district of Kanchanaburi province late at night.

 

It is believed that Evans’ 23 year old neighbour Prasut Thipthep grew displeased with the loud noise, leading to an altercation. Prasut attacked Evans with a sickle – a sharp, curved knife used for harvesting – leaving him with a gaping wound in the back of his neck.

Evans’ body was discovered lying face down in a pool of blood outside of the house by his 33 year old girlfriend Wassana Muanchit, who drove 90 miles from Bangkok back to her home after a concerned neighbour told her to check up on Evans.

Wassana called police to the house where they found Evans lying motionless with severe stab wounds on his neck. Evans’ friend Dagnan, who was also attacked with the sickle, was rushed to Paholpolpayuhasena Hospital with serious injuries. Dagnan underwent an operation on his skull and collarbone.

I can understand the situation, usually the other way round, with Thais playing the music. Does not deserve death, but it should not be tolerated.

This happens in my home country all of the time but usually a gun is used.

My solution to loud music is to fight fire with fire.  I play Wagner operas at high volume with speakers facing the late night revelers, only I do it early in the morning when they are usually hungover.  I never have had to do it more than once - ohh, and my other Thai neighbors thanked me for ending the late at night racket.

the loud nusic was the Brit, drunk and ignoring requests to turn it down. Other peoples noise period though can drive people to do crazy things. This guy was drunk and ignorant and deserved a thick ear.......death is a bit steep.

Unfortunately, this 'story' misses out 90% of other facts and truths that make the murdered man sound responsible. It misses main points about the murderers phsycho problems, lack of care and medicines from his supporting family and especially how the attacked guys and other local 'ferrangs' took care of him before. Jealousy probably. ????????????????

Oh dear.....I'm pretty sure I'm not a psycho and don't do drugs......but still have the urge at times.

 

Last week even the locals complained (only to each other).......the local temple hired one of those buses (90% of it is loudspeakers) and drove it around the village at full volume from 2am to 3am.......loud was not the word.

Not only pickup drivers..

There are enough of those local wackos driving around in sedans, pickups etc....  i don't get it why police tolerate it. Not the first time an ambulance arrives in hospital with a DEAD body that maybe could have been prevented if the car(s) in front of the ambulance shouldn't play such loud music so they could hear the sirene behind them (but sigh.... even if they saw or heard the ambulance behind them, they just dont give way....  selfish NUTBAGS who don't care a sh^t !  ????

Cardinal rule. Never get into an altercation with a Thai. Especially when alcohol is involved. The farang deserved to have his music source stuffed up where the sun don't shine. But chopped with a metacaw was a bit over the top.????

Amazing tokill someone because of missing sound-insulation in your home for windows walls and doors but expecting everyone to cut down their lifestyle. If a Bluetooth speaker bothers- then something is wrong with your own place. Hope this Thai will rotten in Prision.

I must have read the OP incorrectly. But of course, if it WAS coming from the TV in the house, it must have been very loud to be heard outside.

Where I live in Phetchabun, you nearly always find any loud music, disappeared by midnight, a sort of common  nomatter what the event or occassion. never had a problem. most Thais need or want to be asleep by them. Sadly RIP your man forgot or didn't care for this reasoning. But, again no reason for his life to be ended. Location unknown and other details missing, small village the local head should have been called or the police. but as stated too little information.
