Myanmar junta says it will rethink relationship with Thailand

Myanmar’s military government said this week that it would have to rethink its relationship with Thailand following statements made by the next prime minister-elect of Thailand following his election victory, according to local media.

The second most powerful man in the Myanmar regime, General Soe Win, warned his troops that Thailand’s likely new government was ‘pro West’ and would help the ‘terrorists’ operating in his country, according to The Irrawaddy newspaper.

Since taking power by force in 2001, Myanmar’s military government has embarked a bloody campaign of repression and violence sparking a low-simmering civil war with violent confrontations taking place near the Thai border.

I feel sad for all of the ethnic groups in Myanmar. This is turning into a humanitarian crisis.

Paranoid about democracy I think I've heard that before just hope they stick to their side of the border

I doubt that the regimes in Laos and Cambodia are feeling very happy about an outbreak of the hated Democracy, in their backyards, either.

The next time someone asks who Thailand needs to defend itself against (and why the new government is looking to buy new armaments).......you know the answer.

Damage?

Not cosying up to murderous dictators is a bad thing?

Thailand has a lot border trade with people on the other side...and these aren't the richest of the society.

The job of the government is to come along with the neighbors....not warmongering and being terrorists. No matter if the neighbor has a government they don't like.

Lao is communist dictatorship, Cambodia is not really democratic in Malaysia is the Sharia. Biggest trading partner is China a communist dictatorship, another big partner is USA, the worst warmonger and state terrorist on the planet. Should Thailand be hostile to all of them? Or rather be neutral and do business?

What on earth are you talking about ? Who or what is not yet premier, and premier what; premier grade gasoline, premier quality fruit ?

How did you manage to get so much nonsense into such a short sentence ?

You really do have a thing for juntas.
????????????

Even for your fellow Thai junta lovers, supporting the Myanmar regime will be a bridge too far.

Insanity.

Premier is shorthand for Prime Minister.  I understand his post to mean that Pita, though not yet having been voted in as PM by his coalition partners and ham-strung by a senate of self-serving geriatric generals, has managed to damage relationships with the merciless Myanmar generals.

At least 60 years.

And previous to that under the wretched thumb of a foreign power.

Agree with your assessment of the Burmese generals one hundred percent; genocide on an enormous scale, much of it unreported in the MSM.

What about the 83% of the electorate who had their victory nullified by the murderous military regime. The crisis re-started in 2021 with the killings countrywide. Its not just the ethnic groups?

The rethink may hinder quick exit plans for fleeing generals from this direction also ????

History can bear testament to how well your type of appeasement to despotic dictatorships works; and you are obviously completely oblivious to the changing attitude of the electorate of Thailand.

The electorate have told everyone that they want to live under a democracy, one that can unlock the full potential of this wonderful country, and bring education and health care to all, not just to the privileged elite.

narcotics fkow into Chang Rai, don't suppose these junta generals have anything to do with it

  • Popular Post

Saw at the FCCT last night an hr long film about resistance fighters in Burma gun running arms to other fighters in Chin state, places where the junta's armies currently are shut out. They are using worn out motorbikes with the weapons strapped on the back in bags, some of those weapons being bolt action 30-06, at least it's something. People in the film tell stories about houses being burned, civilians and livestock shot. But they are determined; they're not giving up.

I speak about Thailands politics against Myanmar....Myanmars dictatorship does not treat Thailand so there is no appeasement. Thais voted, but foreign politics was not a topic in the election.

Narcotic politics is a constant failure....I agree on that.

Where did I say something about support? I speak about being neutral and don't being aggressive. Neither supporting them, nor being aggressive. Just trade to mutual benefits. Or do you want to punish the Thai traders?
