BANGKOK (NNT) - The government has announced that additional mass-transit systems will be available for commuters to travel around Bangkok and neighboring provinces within a few years.

According to Government Spokesperson Anucha Burapachaisri, commuters will soon be able to use the services from the Yellow Line system which is reported to be over 90 percent complete. The Line connects Bangkok’s Lat Phrao district and Samrong area in Samut Prakan province. He stated that the Thailand Mass Rapid Transit Authority (MRTA) is now performing system tests to ensure the safety of the country’s first monorail mass-transit system, which is scheduled to offer its services by the end of this year.

The government spokesperson provided updates on the Pink Line, another monorail mass-transit system set to begin commercial services in 2024. The Pink Line, which runs from Nonthaburi’s Khae Rai area to Bangkok’s Minburi district, is scheduled to start trial runs in January 2023 and will be open for full commercial services in June next year.

Meanwhile, officials reported that 99% of construction on the Orange Line’s eastern section has been completed. The Section, which connects Bangkok’s Minburi district and Thailand Cultural Centre station, is scheduled to be open in August 2025. The MRTA also reported that work on the southern portion of the Purple Line, which would connect the existing Tao Poon station to Bangkok’s Rat Burana area, is currently underway.

The government spokeswoman added that the MRTA is currently repairing road surfaces that have been damaged by these constructions and that some of these repairs would be finished by the end of this year, alleviating traffic congestion in many locations.

How about finishing some of the ongoing projects like the M6 that Prayut said was '95% completed'? It was done to open in late 2020.....miles of road are completed and have lights which are light up at night in the greatest wastage of energy the world has ever seen.....but there's a great big hole in the middle from Saraburi to Glangdong. I pass it often but never see anyone actually working on it. And there are no tolls, no service area which all need to be built.

Then there is the Bullet train to Nong Thai.....it's gone from bullet train to a 50kph 'express train, completely defeating the purpose. I don't know when it was supposed to be completed but it will be years before its finished.

Also can someone answer me the question why we have all these differing toll systems on toll roads....systems that don't hook up. Easy Pass was the first I believe....requiring embarrassingly difficult registration at a few Krungthai banks nationwide. Then there was MPass....then Mflow.....all these technologies, especially Easy Pass are decades old (I used EZPass in the US in the 1980s). Why didn't they install a state of the art system across the whole system?????? It's absurd worse even than believing politician generals.

The Yellow Line system has postponed announced opening dates so many times, so that when they do actually open, nobody will believe it.

For years motorists have been held hostage in severe traffic jams, while most of the time few or no workers have been seen around the cordoned off parts of the road.

Can’t wait for the real government to audit these projects.

There will be some gasp's when different people start looking at unfinished or invisible projects

So, did the trial runs last January meet expectations? Will there be a need for stronger buffers at the end of line?

So mass/rapid transit in Bangkok:

Overhead rail "SkyTrain" (standard gauge).

Underground rail ( standard gauge but not compatible with SkyTrain), Airport Link ( standard gauge overhead but not compatible with SkyTrain), monorail systems. "Legacy " SRT local passenger services, metre gauge

Nothing like a bit of variety then!
