That is the problem with third road (and a few others). There is no official crossing point, except at the intersections with South & Central road , where the lights are situated. You take your life in your hands.

Wrong.....3rd road has 2 pedestrian crossings between central and south road, one near soi 19 and the other near the Fire Station  ????

But they don't stop at them do they?

Yes cars in Thailand speed up when they see someone on a pedestrian crossing

There are pedestrian crossing lights located just north of Soi 23.....not sure if they are still functional, as a few around town got turned off. They were mostly ignored by traffic anyhow, especially motorcycles. Bad road to cross, no central reservation to take refuge on, and quite fast moving traffic coming both ways....lighting leaves something to be desired too.  Add it to the list of places I nearly got badly injured, Klang, 3rd, Buakhao, Lengkhee, Beach Rd....mostly kids travelling too fast on bikes. I was confused on 2nd only a few days ago....a wide crossing area had been painted in red near Central... but no pedestrian lights, they were 30 or so yards South of there.

Pattaya and most Asian country's in general has always been   --you need to watch where you going because driver and Mbike will most likely not stop-- weather it has a pedestrian X-ing or not.

Also what i have found if a mbike is heading for you do not move out of its way the rider will move around you, if you move the rider will hit

Yes I agree with that. As a motorcyclist myself I always prefer a pedestrian simply to stop. If space permits I will steer round behind them.

I recall from my early days being taught never to run across the road.  'Walk, don't run' was the mantra if I recall correctly. If the road is so busy that you feel compelled to run, then it's not safe to do so. That's always stuck in my mind.

When I was a kid in the UK I was repeatedly taught to look left, look right and left again before crossing the road. In Thailand I still do that, even on a one-way street because - well, you know. If you do that then you don't need an 'official crossing point'. You just wait until the road is clear. It's a good way of staying alive.

Tried to cross 2nd road yesterday on a pedestrian crossing.  Waited for my green light; vehicles in near side lane dutifully stopped whereupon I was nearly run down by SIX vehicles who went through the red light.

Same here, I set myself a rule to always look both ways even on one-way streets after I stupidly, for god knows what reason (probably dementia kicking-in), assumed Pattaya Klang was one-way and only checked one direction as I crossed, not realising my error until I reached the other side. Probably one of my luckiest escapes, given it was about 3pm and a street clear of traffic being quite a rarity at that time of day. Couldn't believe how foolish I'd been, nor how fortuate I'd been to be so foolish at that exact moment.
