No, need! The only thing that result in, is that it will be harder to find the big size for the ones who want them. Not that they will change. I also wrote that in the post you quoted a part of. If you bothered to read all, you would have seen it. ????

It clearly says, they don't sell them any more because they fear people won't buy them because they cost more.

Which part of that is it that you don't understand?

I said what are you paying for a dozen eggs these days, he said the free range ones were 67 baht a dozen, the normal caged ones were 27 baht a dozen.

I didn't think eggs were sold by the dozen in Thailand. The closest I find is 10 eggs to a carton.

No my dear, it does not clearly say that. Please look below:

Consequently, many egg sellers have ceased selling the largest-sized eggs, known as No 0 eggs, fearing they may not sell as well as smaller and cheaper alternatives.

What it clearly says, is that many egg sellers have stopped selling them, but not that they don´t sell them no more, as many is not same as all. That means it is exactly like I posted before. People can still chose the #1 size, but will have it a little bit harder to find them as not all sellers will have them no more.

There we have the essence of reading abilities and understanding capacity. Cheers! ????

I paid B 118 for tray of 30 , thats size 3 the small size , I buy

those as the have the quickest turnover , so should be fresher.

for us Farangs the price increase might not seem much , but think

of the poor Thai people ,eggs and Pla tum , (which have gone from

5 in a packet to 4  shrinkflation ) are their basic food , finding

another 20 Baht a day would not be easy......

Ok, so you still make double egg with #0, then?

geeeez   for a difference of 10 bht i dont care. i still like the #0 and am willing to pay for them. 10 bht wont break the bank. like gasoline... i like the pure 95 non gasohol. a 42 litre fill up is only 230 bht difference with the gasohol 95. long term, a good investment worth the 230bht. you get what you pay for and for me, here just like back home, i dont really like cheap people

off topic: i remember when i was younger in canada when friends would have a beer and decide that each would pay a round. most of the time the last guy up would say he had enough and got out of buying a round. also, the guy who had a crisp 50 or 20 dollar bill and would say, 'errrr i dont want to cash in my nice bill' in order to get others to buy a round or share a toke. these guys taught me well about cheapos

I think the smaller eggs have a higher ratio of the yellow vs the white stuff inside. So I prefer the smaller one. (I could be wrong on it, but it looks like it).

The "funny" thing is that according to the government there is little inflation in Thailand. But I see massive price increases at many products. On the other other hand the EZB and other central banks do the same. They steal your savings... ????????????

Eggsactly ,  Cash used to be king , now it's just melting away ,those in debt get all the help ,

Easy fix for them is to buy a few layers. They can sell any excess. It amazes me that people are making this into such a huge problem. We're talking about such a small amount of money. People are concerned about something that costs just 4 - 6 baht? Crazy. Quit eating eggs for a week or two and see how fast the price drops.

just a tad off with your comments mate.

Many live in Dorm Apts = no chucks, plus kids to feed Etc

You need to live in the Country to understand, or if you already do live in the Country get out more with your eyes open

Actually thought about getting a couple hens, then I guess I need a rooster also.  Not for any pricing, but for freshness.  Still may, though may be too much hassle and attract snakes or rats, and then snakes.

They are cheap enough, 2 egg brekkie dish, adds all of 10 baht to the meal and a great source of protein.

An aside, wife went to some vendor/farm, for mulch-ish product for garden, and somehow we left with 60 eggs ... FREE.  Gal had way too many apparently ????

I don't know the price of a dozen. I just pick up a carton from 7/11 along with other stuff. I don't sweat over prices of individual items. I try to keep my food budget less than 15K for single person.

Just to let you know, you don't buy eggs by the dozen in Thailand, in case you think you are getting ripped off when you only find 10

You quoted a mate back home, so I assume somewhere in the west, paying 27 baht for a dozen eggs That is what I had a hard time to believe, no need to take my post out of context.

And 30 eggs for 130 baht, without mentioning the size, isn't being lucky, as it is said in the OP that No 1 eggs sell at 4.5 Baht. Maybe yours were even smaller size, and in that case you were unlucky.

My bad, I just had a look at that again, and agree, 27 baht is cheap, that said, it helps if I used the correct method to calculate the rate properly, example, I divided it instead of multiply it, therefore it should be he said he is paying 138 baht per doxen not 27 baht per dozen $6.00 AUD.

As for the 30 eggs in the village that we pay 130 baht for, they are a size 2 which I believe is a medium size.

No, he is in Oz, they sell them by the dozen there. I also said he was paying 27 baht per dozen which is incorrect, I divided instead of multiplied the exchange rate, should have been 138 baht per dozen or $6.00AUD.

So in Oz he pays 8 baht more then we do here, he gets 12 eggs, we get 30 eggs.

Whatever it's. I buy a carton. Never count or take notice of the price. I buy from 7/11 and never think of somebody is ripping me off. Went to Youtube and noticed a youtube video touting $50/month room in Bangkok. And by looking at this post, I keep wondering why westerners who have ability to earn dollars are also trying to live like most Thais, counting every penny. Not that anything is wrong with that but people who have the ability to earn dollars showing this type behavior is astounding for me.

You really don't think things thru do you. I was referring to the people who have the land to raise their own chickens not people living in a dorm. It takes about 5 months before a layer can produce eggs. SO.... buy more young chicks and quit eating them and magically you won't have sky high egg prices. Got it? I hope so.

Eggs-actly! Not matter how much people complain about the cost of eggs it's just a tiny increase in price so why all the complaining?

People like you not caring about prices are fueling the inflation. I am not poor and I could spend a lot. But spending money doesn't make me happy. If I can save some Bath this makes me happy even if it doesn't make any sense financially. It is a kind of reward if I buy something. And I have the feeling that I did not get ripped off - at least not too much. Am I a Cheap Charlie? No, I have a good life here and I tell you this after almost 3 decades here. I just don't waste my money.

Many, (not me, sort of) are on a fixed income, some not even getting COLA, and definitely doesn't keep up with inflation, even if they did receive.  So inflation does have an effect on their smile.

Add to that, possibly unplanned krap exchange rate & med costs, they again, didn't plan on, since aging and are no longer invincible.

Trying to balance that with beer, cigs, Viagra & P4P can be a challenge.  Which not to buy this month or next.

Some no longer have a choice between a 'full English brekkie' or 'eggs in pan'.... or AC vs sitting in front of a fan.

No longer "Living the Dream"  ????

I've seen farangs here in Pattaya collecting bottles and eating other people's leftovers in the food courts. Living here as a tourist based on a Retirement Extension is not free. In my opinion, the biggest challenge is health insurance. It gets more and more expensive as you get older. And maybe they won't accept you anymore or only with so many exclusions that it doesn't make any sense to have one. No problem - as long as you don't get sick. But then...

While your at it, you might consider taking in a mating pair of ducks - free range duck eggs are much richer and tastier.

And......like chooks, they acquire a hard-wired homing range - with or without pens.
