Bts to don muang airport?

Is it possible to take the bts/skytrain to don muang airport now? I recall a skytrain station being built opposite dmk last year, googled but got conflicting answers..

I don't know. However, if you are traveling from Suvarnabhumi airport to Don Muang, there is a free shuttle bus every hour. All one has to do is show a plane ticket leaving from Don Muang.

You need the Red Line from Bang Sue Grand** station (Bang Sue on the MRT Blue Line). Red Line station has a pedestrian link into the airport.

yes the bts/skytrain go's to dmk its about a 10 min walk not shore about a lift but there's stairs and ramp

Yes, the BTS station is at the Royal Thai Air Force museum on the other side of the airport. Interesting visit but not much good for the airport.

As said the train station near the terminals would be more appropriate.

Give that to the stupid tourists who don't know that Krung Thep is where they are ????

Bangkok Central Station would be to trivial.

The late name change story with 30 million Baht for new metal letters was a brilliant corruption story.

Before it was Bang Sue Grand Station. Also very cosmopolitic.

Signs were already hanging.

If you're coming up on the BTS, it's quicker, cheaper, and easier to just get off at Mo Chit and change to the A1 or A2 airport express bus (or go all the way up to Yaek Kor Por Aor and then take a taxi). The SRT Red Line gets you there, but it's a walk of a few hundred meters at each end, and runs less frequently than the bus.

No it doesn't. The line that passes the airport is not the Skytrain. The BTS will take you to Mor Chit, where a frequent bus service, A1 or A2, will take you on to the airport for 30 baht. Maybe A3 and A4 too, but they are less frequent and charge 50 baht going from the airport as they go further. Take the furthest exit when leaving the station, towards the right and then go left to the bus stop when on the street.

Sometimes I wonder about the level of common sense planning that goes into the rail line interconnections here....  What ought to be easy and convenient too often ends up being difficult and inconvenient.

 

Start out with the MRT interconnect with the Airport Rail Link at Makkasan. Long haul from MRT underground up escalator to street then another escalator up to bridge level. Then a longish walk on an overhead bridge across Asoke Rd into the ARL station.

 

Then we have the MRT interconnect with the former Bang Sue Grand Central Station connecting to new Red Line. Another longish walk and changing levels to get into Bang Sue, and then more longish walking to get to the Red Line platform.

 

And now of course the Red Line interconnect to Don Mueang Airport... More walking on an over the roadway bridge to finally get into the terminal.

 

It's not that any of the above are that terribly long per se. But given that all of them have airport passenger travelers as part of their customer base, it seems no one gives much thought to the travelers who are coming or going with multiple large pieces of luggage, and face having to schlep them across all of the above rail interconnects... And unlike the airports, not a single moving walkway (horizontal escalator) installed anywhere. Not very enticing.

 

Last time I arrived at DM with luggage, I thought about taking the Red Line/MRT home... But the thought of having to drag my luggage on the multiple station interconnects just to get home made me decide to take a taxi instead. Customer lost for rail.

Reminds of my one and only rail link use from Suvarnabhumi. Down the stairs at the connecting station and a good walk to the BTS. "Well thought" and coordinated between Thailand state railway and Bangkok metro...

Don't know whether is has improved.

It's not BTS - but yes there is a train now, Red Line from the new train station connected to MRT. Need a bit of walk to terminal and 's not well indicated from Airport, might need to ask once there

get the BTS to Mo Chit station then walk down the stairs and catch the A1 or A2 aircon bus straight to DMK.

Yes, it is the RED Line.  Going to DMK -the station is identified.  Once you disembark it is a long walk, more than 10 minutes, it is almost like never ending.  Noy much fun when hauling luggage.  Spend the money and take a taxi, or one of the bus lines.

 

On the return. There are not many scheduled trains.  You may have to wait 10-20 minutes for one.

I think they were supposed to build a new terminal where the walkway from SRT redline is now and there's supposed to be a people mover within terminal to take you from there to the old terminal 1 and 2, but that seems like a long way away, the whole area of the airport souths of there from the old domestic terminal to the cargo terminal is ripe for development

 

formerly when it was only old trains, the old station at Amari hotel had moving walkway that connect to terminal and the hotel

Yes the BTS station at Don Muang is now connected to the airport via a walkway above ground. From the road a few steps then escalator to the walkway to the airport and vice versa
