On June 19, 2023, at Chaisathan Subdistrict, Mueang Nan District, Nan Province, the Nan Immigration Office, led by Pol. Col. Apisak Pisanno, Director of Nan Immigration and team, apprehend an overstaying Taiwanese male. The individual had been residing in the Kingdom of Thailand without proper authorization for a duration exceeding 3,971 days.

The arrest was prompted by a report received by the Nan Immigration Office from foreign service officers indicating that a Taiwanese national had traveled to Thailand and inquired about information regarding staying in the country, reported Naew Na.

The individual presented a Taiwanese passport issued on April 7, 2548, which had expired on April 7, 2558. The immigration officers conducted an investigation, accompanied by an interpreter, and invited the foreigner in question to the Nan Immigration Office for further examination.

Upon verifying the travel documents, it was discovered that the individual had overstayed for 3,971 days. Consequently, the person was apprehended, informed of the charges, and subsequently handed over to the Mueang Nan Police Station for further legal proceedings.

Or thought he was above board by using an agent then decided to do it himself. This would not be the first time this has happened.  If he went to immigration then isn't it something like a 25k fine then all is OK?

No, he did go to immigration and will get deported and banned from Thailand .

The days of just paying 20 000 Baht for any length of overstay have long gone , long overstays these days are blacklisting from going back to Thailand for a  number of years

So that was more than 5 years.....in fact more than 10 years.

So just say more than 10 years.

Years and months if you like.....maybe weeks?

Maybe don't always report the precise number of days......which is pretty much always how the durations, irrespective of length, are reported.

Because the precise number becomes less and less relevant as the duration rises.

And because it sounds a bit....a bit....y'know....."Spergy":

" an awkward, pedantic, or obsessive nature stereotypically associated with Asperger's syndrome."

????

Are you sure? I just read (dated November 2022): this is from the airport: 500baht a day, this goes to a maximum of 20,000 Baht for overstays of 40 days or longer. The good news is that if you pay the fine and then leave the country then you won't have any problem returning to Thailand at a future date.
