US President Joe Biden has called Chinese President Xi Jinping a dictator at a fundraiser in California.

His remarks come a day after US Secretary of State Antony Blinken met Mr Xi for talks in Beijing, which were aimed at easing tensions between the two superpowers.

Mr Xi said some progress had been made in Beijing, while Mr Blinken indicated both sides were open to more talks.

China is yet to respond to Mr Biden's comments.

President Biden, at the fundraiser on Tuesday night local time, also said Mr Xi was embarrassed over the recent tensions around a Chinese spy balloon that had been blown off course over the US.

"The reason why Xi Jinping got very upset, in terms of when I shot that balloon down with two box cars full of spy equipment in it, was he didn't know it was there," Mr Biden said.

The Republicans have been railing against Xi and China for ages now. Ever since Trump wanted the Chinese to pay for tariffs (LOL). Now they are caught between a rock and a hard place because Biden is also calling out China. The right can't keep their ducks in a row for tripping over their talking points.

Meanwhile while petty politics is being played out by both sides of the American spectrum Rome burns. Won't be long before the greenback loses reserve currency status and China becomes the world's largest economy.

China has been on track to become the world's largest economy for decades. It's a product of 1 over billion people. India is likely to become number one because of it's much younger population. No politically manipulated currency will ever become a reserve currency.

China will inject whatever it takes to prop up the real estate sector. The US is stock market driven but most other countries are real estate driven. China has a lot of resources to inject liquidity and there may be another round coming soon.

1. He is simply stating the truth. Perhaps not the best timing for it. But, Xi is a dangerous dictator.

2. I doubt the Yuan will even become the reserve currency. The Chinese economy is in big trouble. The least of which is the economic bubble created by real estate, and the ghost cities. Nobody knows how many abandoned buildings and projects there are. We could be talking about many, many trillions of dollars in debt.

China has lots of cash, yes.

But if it is being used to prop up a highly speculative property market, which seems to be building high rise cities with no-one to live in them, and no real prospect of anyone coming to live in them, then that doesn't make it attractive as a reserve currency.

 

You can inject as much liquidity as you like, but that doesn't alter the fundamentals. There is a massive oversupply of housing, offices and commercial properties which stand empty and bring no return. Putting in more money, to build yet more, will not solve that.

Looking at a map of China showing the close regional proximity of US military bases compared with a map of north America with no Chinese military bases anywhere near, I guess the Chinese need to be more afraid than the US.

Also, Americans forget there are a bunch of politicians older than Biden (Grassley is 89). It's just that Fox needs to find fault with Biden or he will defeat the Republicans again.
