Popular Post webfact Posted July 3, 2023 Popular Post Posted July 3, 2023 Thailand’s sex industry has employed thousands of people for decades, even though soliciting, procuring or operating brothels are all prohibited under the Prevention and Suppression of Prostitution Act of 1996. These workers have, to date, been without any legal protection. Now, however, they are eagerly looking forward to the passage of the Sex Workers Protection Bill, which aims to address issues related to exploitation, human trafficking and the protection of workers’ rights. The experiences of sex workers in Thailand vary greatly. While some may be coerced, trafficked or forced into the industry, some people actively choose sex work as a means of making a living. To provide support to these workers, many agencies have been trying to address the challenges they face. Service Worker in Group Established in 2004, the Service Worker in Group, or ‘SWING’ Foundation, is one such organisation, which has been supporting and protecting the health, human rights and dignity of sex workers in Thailand for nearly twenty years. #news Full story: https://www.thaipbsworld.com/decriminalisation-of-sex-work-to-provide-legal-protection/ -- © Copyright Thai PBS 2023-07-03 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. Wait until they're asked to declare their income and pay tax. And I'm not talking about 350 baht from the bar manager. 3 1 1
Popular Post Purdey Posted July 3, 2023 Popular Post Posted July 3, 2023 I guess stopping the police from rounding them up now and then is a good idea but i guess the respected RTP will find another way to shake them down 3 1
tgw Posted July 3, 2023 Posted July 3, 2023 there were previous posts about how they want to regulate bars and other establishments, but the proposed texts were lacking common sense. the best would be to just strike out the parts of current laws criminalizing the sexworkers, add some rules to protect the workers and give them social security and healthcare and leave the rest untouched. all the registration / licensing stuff is nonsense. 1

TallGuyJohninBKK Posted July 3, 2023 Posted July 3, 2023 In the whole article, absolutely no mention of what's become of the proposed law, what exactly the current version would do, or when if at all it will be formally considered.... 2

ibjoe Posted July 3, 2023 Posted July 3, 2023 I believe in Rights and Respect for sex workers. They should have protection under the law. No one should be trafficked, no one should be forced to do things against their will. Best of luck for legislation to protect sex workers, and best of luck to all sex workers everywhere!

So does the new bill propose legalising soliciting, procuring and operating brothels?
