Pajamas, Knickers, and Noodles — 7-Eleven After Dark in Thailand
In real life, a former GF and I arrived in Hawaii late at night, needed some food from a 24 hour store. A woman about 40 yo, faded blonde, was buying a stack of condoms and lubricant. I had to explain to my somewhat naive GF what the woman's occupation was. In virtually every hotel I’ve stayed at in Thailand - whether it’s, Samui, Chiang Mai, Samet, Phuket etc... one thing remains oddly consistent: the early-morning parade of adult women typically aged somewhere between 20 and 40, shuffling to breakfast in pyjamas that look like they were borrowed from a Saturday morning cartoon marathon often featuring a rogue Hello Kitty or a wide-eyed bear waving for dear life. I often find myself wondering about the inner monologue behind this fashion choice. Is this... cute? Comfort? A statement of postmodern irony? Or have we simply given up as a species? And then there are the wet markets - these same specimens have upped the ante, the ensemble evolves: the cartoon pyjamas remain, but now accompanied by hair rollers and hydrating face masks, as if preparing for either a beauty pageant or a chemical spill. -

Report Thai Students Swap Textbooks for Fire Safety Training
Pictures courtesy of Pattaya News In Sriracha, schoolchildren have traded textbooks for fire extinguishers in an innovative course designed to teach them how to combat fires effectively. This training follows a series of high-rise fires that recently alarmed the nearby city of Pattaya. Yesterday, disaster officials from Sriracha teamed up with fire safety personnel from Phyathai Sriracha Hospital to conduct a fire safety workshop at Wat Ratsadaniyomtham Municipal School. The event, led by Seree Kerdthong, focused on pupils in years 10 to 12 and their teachers, providing both theoretical knowledge and practical skills in fire response. The primary goal is to ensure that students remain calm during emergencies and understand the necessary steps to take, along with whom to contact when a fire erupts. An official noted, “It’s about equipping them with the knowledge and composure to handle fire emergencies, safeguarding lives, and averting damage.” Participants engaged in hands-on activities, tackling simulated fires using extinguishers, and grasped critical fire prevention techniques that could prove life-saving in real situations. This initiative is part of a larger effort to enhance safety awareness among the younger generation, positioning schools as key players in community disaster readiness. This training comes at a crucial time. Only weeks ago, a scare affected tourists in Pattaya when two separate fires broke out in high-rise buildings in Jomtien. The first incident occurred on the 27th floor of a condo on Soi Chaiyaphruek 1 in the early hours of May 28. The sight of smoke spewing from a kitchen forced panicked residents to evacuate down stairwells. Firefighters from the Pattaya City Disaster Relief Centre, assisted by volunteers from the Sawang Boriboon Thammasathan Rescue Foundation, promptly put out the fire. By preparing students now, officials hope to build a safer, more aware community, ready to face and manage such incidents. Adapted by ASEAN Now from The Thaiger 2025-06-25 -

Smokin’ Rooms or Slow Suicide? What Are You Lot Even Thinkin’?
I have always hated the smell of ciggies. The smell on my clothes was terrible. After a cig I'd normally wash my hands or use hand gel and also breath spray. Amazed I ever smoked but used to knock back 5 Rothmans after school at 11 years old! Heavy cannabis smoker as well from late teens for a couple of decades. I'm 57 now and want to make old bones so really want to knock it on the head once and for all. One thing I have noticed during the last month is when I've had a few beers in the evening, I feel much better next morning than I did when I had the same amount of beers accompanied by 15 cigs. That has certainly given me even more of an incentive to quit for good. Thanks for the input 👍 -

Report Thai Hotels Warn of Job Cuts Amid Proposed Wage Hike
The average wage in Thailand is low and contributes to the reason why it's cheap to visit or live in Thailand. If they paid a decent wage prices would have to rise but at the moment they are rising anyway from exploitation and greed. I have seen many products in 7/11 that are as expensive as my own Country, Ireland , which is the second most expensive country in the EU.yes, import taxes , which are ludicrous, do account for this, wine being the best example, but sheer profiteering is rife. -
