Glasses: Lens Terminology

Featured Replies

Could anyone help me understand the terms as the relate to lenses for glasses?

Non

Hard

HCL

Blue Cut

MR 7, 8

Any ciphering of the numbers, etc in first column appreciated

I'm not an optician, nor do I play one on AseanNow.

My understanding:-

Non = Plain, untreated glass

Hard = Hardened Glass

HMC = Hardened and coated glass https://www.mikeoptical.com/newsdetail/the-difference-of-uchc-and-hmc.html

Blue-cut = Adds a blue light filter, could be good for reading.

MR-7, MR-8 = Is the lens material https://www.koalaeye.com/blogs/our-stories/what-is-an-mr-lens

Thanks so much for this. I did a bit of a search and was lost.

The  numbers 1.57 1.61 etc in first column are the light refraction index. Simply put they reflect how the thickness of lens will be.

The other numbers prefixed with sph and cyl are the prescription.
