Hi,

I have been asked by a 74 year old family member to look into health insurance policies while living 6 months in the uk per year and 6 months in Thailand per year. Can anyone recommend a good policy for this? Thanks

Does he have any underlying health conditions?

And is he prepared to be flown back to UK if needed for health care? (A travel policy would be best but with these, the insurer has option of paying for care locally or paying to med-evac back home)

No underlying health conditions and yes is prepared to fly back to uk if needed.

How about if he decided to move to Thailand full time what would be the best option in terms of companies?

Thanks

I am about his age, for the coverage you get the payments are just not worth in IMO, and will be mostly increasing. Most companies will want a medical before they take you on.

I understand the costs will be high with age. But would be interested in finding out the best option for him anyway as thats what ive been asked to do. What companies is in peoples recommendations?

travel insurance:

Seems well recommended and policy can be bought at many post office branches. No age limit for single trip policies.

If he moves to Thailand hre would need a regular health insurance policy. At age 74 options are few and premium (just for hospitalization costs, not outpatient) will be in the vicinity of 4,000 - 5,000 pounds annually.

Best option in terms of cost is probably Cigna Global out of the UK - not to be confused with Cigna Thailand which is a Thai company and in any case apparently  being phased out.
