Sounds like a bunch of stopovers on cheap tickets to Thailand.

Quite a few of them were on the company dime, working as a consultant for a month or two in each place. The rest, on my own dime for a minimum of two weeks.

Don't you get tired of bruising yourself, jumping to fatuous conclusions? Troll someone else.

You don't have to convince me anything. Your posts speak volumes, especially your top 5 for living in Thailand for such a well travelled prestigious individual

Two traffic fines in ten years, and you want to tar and feather me? Lay off the booze and pot, you've lost all sense of proportion.

Everything found in Thailand can be found in other countries, The OP didn't specify that the five things had to be unique to Thailand. Or have I missed something?

oh just to refresh your memory here is your list

Swim all year

Cheap massages

Cheap restaurants/accomm

No need to leave car for refuels

Acceptance of much younger GF/wife

Hardly unique to Thailand

can swim all year in any country.

cheap massages available in any third world country

cheap restaurants and hotels as above

younger wife no problem anywhere

In car refuels ? ok i'll give you the benefit of the doubt for that one, but personally I prefer self service

In his first sentence the OP makes comparisons between Thailand and his home country. Hence IMHO the topic is about the ‘top 5 things you like most about Thailand not found in your home country’. Of course you can swim all year in warm weather, have cheap accommodation, massages, rent etc in many other countries, but definitely not in the home country of the vast majority of contributors to this thread.

with the driving while on the phone. apparently there are laws on the books.

https://bangkokjack.com/2022/10/15/law-cell-phone-thailand-driving/

question....have you spent numerous years driving in and around bkk. in the last 4 years alone i must be around 130 000 km of riding a scooter and big bike.

if most of your time has been spent driving in chaing mai/rai then there is really no comparison. if you have then ok.

I use the scooter for short trips, the car for longer trips, such as visiting friends in CM from CR. I've done multiple loops around northern Thailand.

I would never get on a big bike, I know my limitations. IMO those who do have latent suicidal tendencies.

I've driven through Bangkok once, that was enough.

so the same sense of proportion applies in this then yes ? your experience in bkk i mean. 2 accidents which were not my fault in over 130k km on a scooter in and around bkk is pretty good if you ask me.

ps...haven't been drunk in over 15 years. cannabis is medicine so id rather not lay off that one.

driving is one of the things i do love about here though. the chaos is quite soothing.

Alcohol impairs reaction time even when imbibed below the legal limit.

If you are driving with cannabis in your system, IMO you forfeit any moral high ground you may think you have.

I do agree driving is quite relaxing, strange as it may seem on some of the most dangerous roads in the world.

Here's mine:

1/ Renting a condo or a house for less than a quarter what it would cost me in Australia.

2/ The freedom to hop on a scooter and go shopping, or just for a cruise. Relaxed road laws, traffic fines won't break the bank.

3/ Having a girlfriend 23 years younger than me, who thinks the sun shines from my posterior.

4/ Enjoying all the permutations and combinations of the multiple cuisines available here, inexpensively.

5/ Knowing I won't be shoved into an aged care facility, and fed food that would make a dog puke.

Bonus - Seeing a specialist without BS referrals, and getting replacement medications at pharmacies without BS prescriptions.

Agree in full - you're not Australian by any chance? Thought so.

if i smoke before bed tonight and wake in the morning it is still in my system. yet i will not be impaired in any way.

i have no moral high ground. as you probably know from a lot of my comments its generally a laugh.

Including the condo and house rental where you can't swing a cat, where you get free cocroaches and snakes included in your rent and to get anything close to Western kitchen you would have to rent in Ritz Carlton residences or Shangri-La paying 200k a month.

Got a house with garden in BKK for 25K a month + 6K for electricity. One of the 6 rooms is used as kitchen.

Indeed, anyone can get a prostitute, it's like paying somebody to laugh at your jokes it does not really count, it's not clever and nobody else is interested.

You seem very interested, how many prostitutes have you nailed, and how old were they, ?

Do you have an actual lower age limit, or do you work on an age "differential" which presumably increases incrementally with each of your  birthdays?

Just the 6O year old plus man who's only interest in thailand is the fact that he want to bed and impregnate 19 year old girls by paying them small sums of money for sex...as they are poor.

19 year old women.

And they choose that because they are being exploited on minimum wage here.

Thailand is great!!

Are there challenges? sure ! what country does not have them. I am American but I also have a Greek Passport . I have a good pension from my trade union in the US,, collect Social security , have funds from assets I sold in the US.

I could live Ok in the US, I could live in Greece , or any other EU country and yet I am here .

Thailand!! How do I love thee, let me count the ways. One thousand one , one thousand two.......

Don't get me wrong me and Thailand have our moments ????but for the most part love it.

Five quick things,

I can do whatever I want in my property

I leave above my back home means.

I have 5 dogs, back home they would have me in an insane asylum.

I get to drive on the wrong side of the street, Even for Thailand ????

I got a speeding ticket and it was $15, paid it on the spot and asked if I could buy a book of ten. :cheesy:

Not interested is prostitutes, just disgusted by the type who come here primarily for sex, thinking they are actually doing the girls and the economy a favour, ignorant of the crime, despair, disease and depression behind the fake smiles and neon. it's a regular on here for people to defend the exploitation of Thai woman, one was boasting the other week of a 14 year old he met in Phuket and another regular banged up his own (underage) stepdaughter and got her pregnant. Sex tourists and resident mongers are the dregs of society.

no need to check anybody's profile, your score is written under your avatar to the left of your posts, as is everybody elses, you didn't know that did you lol

I don't need your pity, you should save that for your "practical relationship" whatever one of those is

You are kidding.

A pack of hotdog sausage is 200 baht plus.

I can get several kilos of real meat for that.

He lives in Oz. Claims to live on $40 a week. Sounds like bs to me. A small pack of meat is $10. Lets say he eats half a day thats $35 a week on meat alone. So for 7 days he spends $5 on other food 5555

You are setting your standards too high; this is Thailand.

Just look around. Take off the rose tinted glasses.
