On July 28th, Lt. Col. Terntorn Onnim, Deputy Superintendent of Phaya Thai Police, revealed the apprehension of two suspects involved in pickpocketing foreign tourists, resulting in losses of over 90,000 Baht.

The investigation began after security personnel at a renowned shopping mall near the Water Gate area reported suspicious activities captured on their surveillance cameras. The Phaya Thai Police had previously received reports of two pickpocketing incidents involving three victims, reported Siam Rath.

Subsequently, Lt. Col. Terntorn and his team successfully identified and arrested the culprits, Miss Nanthasita (age 36) and Miss Isariyakorn (age 33).

The suspects confessed to targeting foreign tourists who appeared distracted while shopping. They would approach their victims, distract them with merchandise, and then skillfully steal their belongings, making off with the stolen items.

Authorities urge travelers to remain vigilant and keep their belongings secure while shopping, emphasizing the importance of checking their possessions before leaving stores to prevent such incidents.

I sometimes wonder if all crimes should carry automatic prison sentences depending on what or how much was stolen - 100,000 baht - 100 days in the nick, a million baht = 3.3 years ish. Problem is that the entire world now treats theft as small crime

Not me - I would give them a good slap!!  Theft should be punished by caning in public.
