Road Crash Claims Life of Teacher Hurrying to Returning Home
Picture from responders. A teacher lost her life in the early hours of 24th February after her car skidded on a wet road and crashed into the back of a lorry in Rayong province. At approximately 05:00, Pol Lt Woraphan Phetsri of Pak Nam Prasae Police Station, Rayong, received a report of a fatal accident on Sukhumvit Road, Rayong-Chanthaburi route, in Moo 2, Thung Khwai Kin subdistrict, Klaeng district. The crash occurred 400 metres past the Prasae traffic lights, where a black Toyota Vios, registration number from Chanthaburi, collided with a white lorry transporting milk, registered in Nakhon Nayok. Emergency services, including doctors from Klaeng Hospital and rescue workers from the Buddhist Relief Foundation, were dispatched to the scene. Upon arrival, officers found the road soaked after a night of heavy rainfall. The Toyota Vios had sustained damage, with drivers side damaged. The driver, later identified as Ms Rachatanan, 33, originally from Thang Kwian subdistrict, Klaeng district, Rayong, was inside and unresponsive. Despite immediate CPR attempts by rescuers, she succumbed to her injuries at the scene. Inside the wrecked vehicle, police discovered documents confirming Ms Rachatanan’s identity. A teacher in Chanthaburi, she had been returning home from a wedding celebration in Bangkok. A wedding invitation card dated 23rd February was also found in the car, suggesting she had attended the event before embarking on her journey home. It is believed she was rushing to reach Chanthaburi in time for her teaching duties that morning. The lorry driver, identified as Mr Phraiwan, 39, was waiting at the scene when authorities arrived. He explained that he had been driving in the left lane in the rain when he suddenly felt a powerful impact from behind. Pulling over immediately, he discovered the severely damaged car and the trapped driver, prompting him to alert emergency responders. Expressing his condolences, Mr Phraiwan stated that he was deeply saddened by the tragic loss. Eyewitness accounts suggest that Ms Rachatanan's vehicle had lost control after passing through a traffic light, causing it to spin before slamming sideways into the rear side of the lorry. Authorities suspect the accident was caused by the slippery road conditions combined with excessive speed. Relatives of the deceased arrived at the scene in tears, mourning the loss of a beloved family member. They described Ms Rachatanan as a kind-hearted person but noted her tendency to drive at high speeds, a concern they had frequently expressed. The family believes she may have been hurrying to get back to school for her morning classes when the accident occurred. Authorities are conducting a thorough investigation into the incident, including reviewing CCTV footage and questioning witnesses, to determine the exact cause of the crash.Her body was transported to Klaeng Hospital for an autopsy. -- 2025-02-25 -

Bank Staff Falls Down Lift Shaft in Pattaya

The incident occurred at approximately 07:40 prompting a swift response from the Pattaya Emergency Rescue Foundation. Upon receiving the emergency call, rescue personnel rushed to the scene located on the third floor of the bank, situated on Pattaya Second Road, Bang Lamung District, Chonburi. Upon arrival, they found the victim, identified as Narut Yuthasuntorn, unconscious with serious head and spinal injuries, with significant blood loss. Witnesses reported that Narut had been preparing to transport cash to various ATMs in the Bang Lamung area. According to Ms Aor, his 41-year-old supervisor, Narut was facing away from the lift as he pulled a cash bag into the lift, mistakenly believing the lift had arrived at his floor, but he lost his footing and the momentum of the bag caused him to fall into the open lift shaft and sustaining the critical injuries. Rescue teams quickly provided first aid at the base of the shaft, before carefully extracting him from the lift shaft on a spinal board and transporting him to Pattaya Hospital for urgent medical treatment. Authorities and bank officials are investigating the incident. -- 2025-02-25
